Q: iSight does not work with online Flash-based chat sites

Hello. I have tried everything to get my iSight to work online with sites like Chatroulette, but Flash is not detecting the camera at all.

Some facts:
1. The iSight is detected under System Profiler > USB > USB High-Speed Bus > Built-in iSight.
2. The iSight works in Photo Booth and other similar apps.
3. I have reset the PRAM and PMU 3 times each, to no avail.
4. I have created a separate user, but the same problem exists on that account.
5. When I try to change the camera settings on Chatroulette, I am either presented with no camera options at all or only "DV Video" and "IIRC Firewire."
6. This has been a problem for about 4 months now. It was fixed temporarily after a system update but came back shortly thereafter.

I don't believe this is a hardware problem, because it works fine in Photo Booth. I've even tried to have Photo Booth and Chatroulette open at the same time, but I still can't select my iSight as a camera. It doesn't detect it.

I have tried every solution online I could find, but nothing has worked for me. Any ideas, short of reinstalling the OS? Thanks!

Yes, I can confirm my issue as the same as most people here, which is on the title, due to google's plugin. But I can also point one thing nobody noted (I think) that the camera DOES work on gmail's flash when both are installed AND I could even see it sometimes appearing at chatroulette (my testing site) while gmail's video is on when I was toying around trying to figure out what was wrong.

I'm not sure what's different from my machine's setup and Ralph or Jim, but unlike them they just don't work together in mine. I have to choose through installing or uninstalling google's plugin.

I've tried everything from uninstalling to re-installing both google's and adobe's, the last one both in beta and on the current stable (at 10.1.X).

Google Chrome also have a different flash which I couldn't touch, but with same issue.

And I'm pretty positive this problem came along either with 10.6.5 or flash 10.1 because I know it worked before doing those **** patches.

Time Machine isn't such a good idea because downgrading can potentially break other things. Plus my restore point from so long ago is long gone.

Anyway, just giving my report. Hope to find a fix for this soon enough, if I ever need to have both working at the same time! Or just for the sake of being right.

Following there are two good links for adobe.

    uninstalling on mac: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html#ostype=m,prob1=uninst,os=m10.6,

I've had this same problem for months and didn't know what to do. Even a genius at the genius bar didn't know what to do. But uninstalling Google Voice and Video did the trick! Yay!

You are correct that this is an old thread from last year.  Moreover, it has already been answered, so it will probably not have as much attention as you would like your problem to have now.  However, you can still try the following:

    (1) Test your iSight with Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 The reset suggested there sometimes restores proper iSight function.

    (2) If your ONLY problem with iSight in any app and any user account, and if your iSight's ONLY problem occurs when you try to use web-based video, you likely need to update your Flash Player:  http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

    (3) If you already have the most current Flash version compatible with your system, you may merely need to configure your Flash plug-in settings: http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/ flashplayer/help/index.html

    (4) If the above suggestions do not correct your trouble, you have a different problem.  To get the best help, start your own separate, new discussion topic.  Click here and post as much detail as possible about the particulars of your problem.  Include your country location, what Mac you use, what Mac OS you are running, and what you have already tried unsuccessfully.

Sorry to read that you are having trouble, but you are in the right place for your first try for help!

However, this is an old thread from last year that has already been answered, so it will probably not have as much attention as you would like your problem to have now.  Unless you find the answer you need here, try this:

    (1) Update your profile info (or post System, Mac OS, and Equipment list in every question you post) and start a new topic by clicking here (if you cannot find the link on the iSight Discussions page.)

    (2) Post as much specific info about your problem as you can including:

         (a) What Mac and Mac OS you use

(unless you have added it to your profile )

         (b) The specifics of your problem including what browser app(s)

and which Flash version you are using

         (c) List installed third party (non-Apple) browser software or plugins

              (sometimes called tools or toolbars?)

         (d) Whether the problem is EXACTLY the same when you test

in more than one user account.

         (e) Whether you have noted ANY other problem with your Mac

during the time of this trouble.

    (3) We will watch for your new thread and offer specific suggestions for your problem based on your details.

    Cheers,

    EZ Jim

    Hey Lalameme,

    I had the same problem...

I uninstalled Flash Player 11 and installed Flash 10.3. Now it's working perfectly again.

Hope it works for you too.

    Cheers,

Well I can't get it to work.  I dont know if it's driver based or not.  What I tried was install bootcamp, put a version of windows 7.  Boot up on the PC side.  Installed the latest flash with the latest firefox and it STILL doesn't work.

Same stuff happens on BOOTCAMP (PC) side as the mac osx side....

This thread is now more than a year old, and the original topic has already been marked answered.

Moreover, Adobe has updated Flash several times, and the related Apple and third-party software discussed in the several suggestions offered in the responses to this topic have also been updated several times.  Therefore, the suggestions in this thread no longer apply to present Flash problem.

Given the age, length, and variety of problems discussed in this topic, your post here will probably not have as much attention as you would like your problem to have now. Unless you find the answer you need here, try this:
