Hi and welcome..

Missing from where?

You posted this in Safari for Windows? I lost my safari icon. There is a question mark over it. It's not even on my preferences. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12544635#12544635

If you mean System Preferenece, no, it's not there.

Launch Safari from your Applications folder. Now click and hold the Safari icon in your Dock, then click: Options then click: *Keep in Dock*.

If that doesn't help, please provide more details.

There is a folder, labeled safari, but it u try to open it reads "there is no default app specified to open the document.

Hi

It sounds as if the Safari app may have lost its 'bundle' id. An app is actually a folder
with the various components of the app within in, specially marked so that finder
treats it as a single item & runs it as an application when double-clicked.

If that's the case here - inside the Safari folder you'll see a contents folder,
and inside that a MacOS folder... & within it a file named Safari with a 'black screen' icon :
/Applications/Safari.app/Contents/MacOS/Safari

double-click it and a (scary looking) text window will open, followed by Safari itself - if that happens (which is good), drag the odd-looking, black-screen-icon Safari file next to the trash in the dock (making a dock shortcut), so that it's easy to get again, & let us know... we can then hopefully use Safari to get Safari fixed up ๐Ÿ™‚

First thing being a 'spare' browser for rare occasions like these.

I'll be away from my computer for most of the day. I'll try that this afternoon and post what happens. Thanks. Early this morning I tried to reinstall the os to see if that worked but it seems like the computer locked up and now I can't eject the cd. All I get is the white screen with the apple in the middle with the symbol that that working but nothing seems to be going on. No sound that the cd is spinning.

Hi izzi2,

From Apple's Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot load optical disc drive :

The drive doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly
1. If the drive ejects discs slowly or appears to be struggling, insert and eject a single disc several times.
2. If the drive does not eject discs using the F12 or eject key on the keyboard.
3. If the disc will not eject try dragging the disc icon to the trash.
4. If the disc will still not eject, holding down the trackpad or mouse button after restarting the computer should also eject a disc.
5. If the disc continues not to eject, reset the Power Manager (PMU) or System Management Controller (SMC) and try steps 1-4 again.
6. If the disc still does not eject, for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service please contact Apple, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store.

hope that helps to get your disk unstuck,
