iMovie 11 Picture in Picture (PIP) kills transitions between clips??

Hi Folks,

In iMovie '09 I placed transitions between clips, followed by placing a PIP watermark logo that spanned the entire length of the movie. Everything worked well - the watermarked logo was always visible and the transitions between clips worked fine.

In iMovie '11, the minute I have a PIP watermark logo space the duration of the movie, any transitions that existed between clips immediately grey out and no longer work. If I remove the PIP, the transitions un-grey and life is good again.

I'm thinking Apple thinks this might be a feature?? LOL.

Is anyone else having this issue, or is it just me?

I assume an immediate workaround would be to have a PIP for each clip but that does become cumbersome with many clips.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

I've had this issue with 11, as well... but mine's worse. Since updating to 9.0.2, I don't even HAVE Picture in Picture anymore. No matter what I drag into the iMovie timeline, I only get four options:

Replace
Insert
Audio Only
Cancel

There are no more greenscreen, cutaway, etc options available, no matter what type of clip, photo, or otherwise I try to drag onto it. I've verified that the option is selected in Preferences, but it is doing this on both my Mac Pro and my MBP.

I have the same problem...it's extremely annoying. Plus, when embedding a pip logo watermark, it always wants to add freakin' black bars above it and below it when fitting the logo, which is ridiculous. Why can't it maintain the transparency entirely like it always did before. Has anyone else experienced this, because I'm about to throw in the towel in iMovie '11.

I had the same problem, most frustrating BUT - I have a workaround

so its not perfect, but its OK...

after your insert your PIP, make sure there is .5 seconds or so after the main transition

then, double click the PIP and you'll get another menu as attached

you can select for the PIP to have its own transition, so you get another blend in effect for the PIP after the transitions...User uploaded file
