Need help converting ithmb pics to jpg

We just got back from vacation and most of our pictures were taken with the iPhone4. The problem is, when we moved the pics to our PC, they won't open. Any idea how to convert them? From what I've read in a few online posts, I'd have to download at least two programs to do it.

Actually, .ithmb files are not .jpegs. They are RAW format, which is why you cannot view them on your pc. Keith's software only works on MAC OS but here is the only thing that will work for a pc. Don't waste your money on anything else, because they will not work. This is freeware and it's a very small command line program. You can download it for free here:

Now follow these steps:
1. Create a new foder called Thumbs as a subdirectory of your hard drive. I assume this your C: drive. (example C:\Thumbs)
2. Copy all the .ithmb files into this folder.
3. Download the iThmbConv program file directly into this folder.
4. Now, on your pc desktop, go to Start, Run and enter cmd in the box. Hit okay.
5. When the black screen command prompt comes on, type cd.. at the end of the prompt line. Press Enter.
6. The next line should only show C:> If not, enter cd.. again to just show C:>
7. Now type *cd Thumbs* When you press enter, the next line should be C:Thumbs>
8. Assuming one of your .ithmb picture files is named T100. (They are all T and a number, so I'm using T100 as an example) Now type *iThumbConv T100.ithmb*
You should now see a few copies of your original .ithmb file in the Thumbs folder in a format that is viewable on your pc such as .jpg or whatever.
Repeat step #8 for each additional .ithmb file you want to convert. Then, you can ditch the the copies you don't need.

The other two are both right, but Allan didn't give you all of the help you need on getting the jpgs and Diva's answer would drive me nuts converting one by one. The key is to not use the Itunes interface from your PC to transfer the files, but use Windows Explorer. The iPhone will be connected just like any other camera would be and you can access it as such. I run windows XP and had to actually right click on the iPhone device and select "Get pictures" from the menu. Final item of note is that any video you took comes in as a .MOV file, so those are pretty standard as well. Not sure why I-Tunes doesn't just copy them in jpg in the first place, but I hope this helps (drove me nuts for a few hours until I figured this out as well).

iTunes has nothing whatsoever to do with importing photos from a digital camera including from the iPhone's Camera Roll. Photos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are not touched during the iTunes sync process except for being included with the iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. Even if iTunes were involved with importing photos from the iPhone's Camera Roll, the files would not be converted during the import or transfer process. I've never heard of such a thing - the file format being changed or converted when photos are imported from a digital camera.

I got the same message, then realized the command is listed wrong, it should be ithmbconv (exclude the 'u'), also, creating a batch file is the way to go, you can convert hundreds of files quickly, here's a quick method, still all within the same directory, first create a tree by typing:
C:\thumbs tree /a /f > tree.txt <enter>
this will create a list of all .ithmb files in the directory, open this file with notepad, delete the header and footer information, find and replace all ' T' with 'ithmbconv T' (make sure you find the correct number of spaces before the T) save this file, change to .bat extension, then from command line type:
C:\thumbs tree <enter> and wala, hundreds of jpg's created, proud of myself, can you tell?

Well... I found this software is really GOOD one (refer to Diva 1st post), if you wanna convert all folder n subfolders, just one command line will do, I tried it in 5 mins it convert tons of my photos in ithmb format. PLEASE read correctly, this mathod only good for those who lost the photo in Apple devices. Download the software unzip it into a new Folder (name it urself), copy the ithmb folder into that folder. Then........


To convert a Folder & it Sub-folders (YUP!!! it will convert the subfolders file like F00/F01.....) In Command prompt goto the folder that you created, type in :-


iThmbConv.exe "iPod Photo Cache"


TADA........!!!!!!!!!!! you will find jpg in BIG photo, ppm in small photo!!! Goodluck mate!!!!
