need credit card to update free apps?

Updated my touch to 4.x.x, saw that I needed 23 app updates, entered pw and then it took me to the credit card page and asked me to update my credit card.
So, to shorten the story, I can't update my apps without current credit info.

Am I going to be charged for updates?
Buyer beware?

I did a search.

MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

That's great!

Then how come Apple won't allow me to update my apps without revised cc info?

Edit: It updated through my computer without any new information.
Just doesn't do it on iTouch itself.
will update the touch using the computer,

I've got the same problem, but can't you pay this via other method (not credit card) ??

update with your computer then update the touch with your computer.
