new router messed up bonjour

Recently our old router fell off the table and broke, we sent in for a replacement to Qwest, and they gave us a new router. Here's a link: http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/modems.html The new modem/router is the Actiontec PK5000.

Currently, my iPhone 3GS (latest iOS) and iTunes(latest ver) can connect to Itunes via USB perfectly. As it should...

Anywho, when I use apps such as FileMagnet, Documents to Go Prem, and even Remote, they cannot detect my iPhone. I have disabled win7 firewall and nothing changes.

With FileMagnet, it gives the option to enter my iPhone's IP address. When I do that, it works.

And every app FAQ/support software says there it "must" be a conflict with Bonjour. So next, I updated Bonjour (just used the most current one on Apple Servers today). Nothing changed, except it added Bonjour Printing.

Both devices are on the same network, same router, same subnet. I have added exceptions to the Windows Firewall for all app-sync programs (FileMagnet, Documents to Go, Itunes), and nothing changes.

Itunes just doesn't see my device.

So....I'm thinking, is the new router blocking Bonjour somehow?
This is really irritating, and have no idea on what to do next.
Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Okay, it looks like your ActionTek model has a built-in SPI firewall, and it's possible that that is blocking your BonJour:

Port 5353 is usually the main trouble location for a BonJour issue, but there's a few other ports you might want to check on. See:

I opened the ports, specifically, 5297, 5298 & 5353 and still no change.

But I figured it out.
Qwest, or I suppose this Actiontec PK5000, does NOT support Bonjour. I'm thinking it must use some sort of ALG for SIP.

Apple Mods should make a sticky, saying this ROUTER, does not work with bonjour AT ALL. However, Qwest, says that support will be added in their next firmware upgrade.

Thanks for the help though!

I have been having exactly the same problem and spent some time tonight enabling/disabling services on the router and generally experimenting. The interesting discovery I made was that Bonjour services were showing up just fine when my MacBook was connected to the router via Ethernet. When I switched to wireless only, nothing worked.

So I disabled 802.11b wireless networking on the router and then -- poof! -- everything worked just fine. Whereas I couldn't VNC from my MBP to any other machine when on the wireless network, I now can. And whereas my iPhone couldn't connect to my iTunes library (except after the iTunes host being rebooted, and only then for a short while), it now works!

Hopefully this won't be a temporary fix, but it's looking good!

I have an actiontec q1000 and after extensive research found out that none of the actiontec modems support the IGMP protocol. AKA Multicast part of which is used by bonjour. The data sheet on actiontec's web sight for the q1000 says that IGMP is "comming soon". If you use wireless on an actiontec modem you will not be able to sync any bonjour devices (itunes, appletv and a host of other things). I contacted qwests support and the told me that IGMP should be implemented in the firware push towards the end of Jan 2011. I wont hold my breath. But here is hoping:)
Again if I try to sync my apple tv's with my computer or any apple devices wirelessly using bonjour they will not be seen in itunes. No IGMP in the actiontec modems is the reason why. My old 2 wire modem supported multicast IGMP and itunes worked with it with no problems. I have had this problem for a year and a half since I switched to fiber dsl and had to go to the actiontec q1000. I got tired of waiting for quest and bought a apple airport extreme wireless n router and hooked it up to the ether ports on the q1000. The airport works flawlessly. I dont use the q1000 for anything but a dsl connection now. I turned off the wireless in the stuped thing. Maybe someday qwest will get a firmware update that turns it on but I got tired of waiting.

I have been researching this all morning. I have an HP All-In-One Printer Photosmart D110a and the bonjour & airprint printing is not working on my network. I have qwest with a PK5000 router.

I have talked with qwest and verified actiontek to verify this information and they have confirmed it over the phone with their tech supports.

The PK5000 has a bug in the existing firmware version QAPK01-3.60.3.0.9.0-PK5000 where it does not allow multicast protocols over wifi. It works fine if things were plugged in with WIRED connections, but that defeats the purpose of the bonjour airprint / HP Wireless Printing functionality.

Actiontek has expressed that they have supplied a new firmware to qwest for the PK5000 which resolves this bug, but qwest has yet to make this available to qwest customers. Until qwest decides to release this new firmware to their customers you need to get a PK5000z if you want to use bonjour / airprint technology in your wireless network.

Its the same reason I posted above for the q1000 vdsl modem it does not support IGMP. part of the IGMP protocol is multicast and a subset of the multicast protocol is used by bonjour. Unfortunately actiontec put the modems out without this implemented, and qwest uses these modems. It sounds like from your post that actiontec has finally included this in a firmware update but qwest is dragging there feet on pushing it out to there customers. No huge supprise there lol. Like I said above I got tired of waiting for qwest a year and a half ago and bought an apple airport extreme wireless n router and just turned the wireless in the actiontec off. The wireless in these is useless for people that use multicast which is everyone. windows users included. Microsoft uses multicast in a ton of stuff in windows 7 so its not just apple products anymore. Like I said above I am not holding my breath on qwest they have been saying the fix is coming in a firmware push for almost 2 years now. There have been 4 firmware updates pushed to my q1000 in that time and not one of them has turned on IGMP/Multicast.
