Undo copy can't redo...FML

Now tell me why it's an option to undo a copy of a file when the medias original location area is missing? So I had an export of an edit that i brought into final cut from last night.... this morning I wanted to undo an edit in fcp, I didn't come back from finder(I move kinda fast) and hit command+z. It undid the copy of the Media to my scratch drive, hence removing it from the project, but the thumb drive which the media was on was cleared..... now it can redo the copy because there's nothing to copy from. *? Why would it have given me the undo copy in the first place?

It may be possible to recover some erased ones, but you must quit using the Computer/drive immediately, because the OS will think it can write to those freed blocks on the disk.

Either boot this one in Target mode...

And recovering from another Mac, or booting this Mac from another HDD, then using Data Rescue...

(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).

The reason why I didn't post it over in my usual forum is because it's a Finder specific problem. My copy and paste wasn't FCP related. I mentioned FCP to show the extent of the effects that this problem has on me. So once again but without FCP mentioned;
Copy file from thumb drive to hd
thumb drive is removed and file removed from thumb drive
undo copy to hd (which for some reason is still able to happen even without thumb drive plugged in)
File goes missing and cannot be recovered.
what do?

Ah, I see now, I misunderstood. User uploaded file

In Finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".

Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.

Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists.

Are there any, & do they contain any info?

Hi,

The same thing just happened to me.

Copied from SD card to imac disk
Formatted SD card in camera to prepare for next pictures
Later chose undo copy of n items, thinking I was undoing something else.
Result - no files in imac and no files in sd card
Cant redo, because the sd card is not there... and would not have the files anyway.

Anyone found a way to recover these files?
Why would an undo option be available for an external card?
Makes no sense to me. Anyone can comment?

Thanks for any help
Pedro.

Hi,
Well, I was able to get some of the files back. From my own disk, using a photo recovery SW.
Got back almost all the pictures but unfortunately none of the videos.
All in all, not totally lost.

How can I report this to Apple? Is there a way to open a bug complaint? Not sure it would be considered a bug, but at least show the inconsistency of this behavior.
I believe it would be better if the undo option was only available until you eject the card/usb key.

Thanks
Pedro.
