Play/pause key conflicts with iTunes

Whenever I use iPhoto and have music playing in iTunes, I cannot pause the music when iPhoto is active. This automatically starts a slideshow. Is it possible to deactivate this key in iPhoto?

Who wants a hotkey to start a slideshow? I mean, how often do you use slideshows vs. pausing music? And why is this on the same key?
Music play, forward, etc. is something as important as brightness high/low, so it should work in every program.

I am using a MacBook Pro (Play/pause key is on F8).

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Agreed. This is currently driving me crazy.

Can someone at Apple please add "Disable Hotkey/Headphone Slideshow Play/Pausing" to the preferences for iPhoto??!!

Well this seems still to be a problem for some users.

And it sems that Apple is just ignoring this problem. 😐

Agreed -- I make the mistake of trying to control my music while in iPhoto all the time and am constantly starting slideshows or changing albums by accident. It has gotten to the point where I will be switching to Picasa to avoid this problem which should be minor to fix.

The most annoying thing in the world. Totally agreed. Isn't there at least an option we can modify vía defaults? It doesn't have to be a fancy iPhoto option.

This is one of the few problems I see in OS X user interface, it also collapses with other programs, video players, mostly.
