Q: XSan storage expansion

We have deployed a SAN made of 3 Promise VTrak RAIDs (2 head units + 1 expansion). They are all 1st gen VTraks with 750 GB SATA drives.

In my current test setup, I have a single volume with 4 storage pools (1 metadata + 3 user data).

My question is about expanding the free space available for the volume. If I buy a new 32 TB SATA VTrak, how can I configure my SAN to use the full 32 TB available to me, without having to create new folders? (I'm sharing a folder on my XSan volume and I want to make more storage available to that shared folder)

Obviously, my old Promise units have 750 GB drives and the new ones have 2TB drives so my LUN/storage pools won't have the same size.

Is there a way to add storage capacity to an XSan volume without creating new folders if your LUNs can't be the same size?

    1. Build a new volume from a new a Vtrak with 2TB drives.
    2. Copy data from old volume to new
    3. Destroy old volume
    4. Upgrade drives to 2TB in old Vtraks
    5. Make new LUNs and add new storage pools to Xsan

or add new storage pool and use snfs defrag to move data over to new pool.
