I'm asking for a Midi Keyboard for christmas and was wondering what, in your opinions, would you ask for? I'm leaning toward the Keystation 49e USB MIDI Controller Keyboard. It seems affordable and the reviews have been good. Now I just wanted to check with some actual Mac users!

I absolutely love my 49e keyboard. I'm always amazed by the quality of it every time I use it. I have made a lot of music with it since Santa brought me one last Christmas. Its no piece of junk and everytime I put it away it brings a smile to my face. If I were you I'd be extra nice between now a Christmas!
Unfortunately I had to leverage my Christmas gift this year for a rather nice birthday gift in August!
The most versatile USB/MIDI keyboard controllers for GarageBand IMHO are either the M-AUDIO/Evolution MK-449C or the M-AUDIO/Evolution MK-461C. All their sliders, knobs, and buttons are assignable to any MIDI function. The 449 is a 49 key, 4-octave keyboard and the 461 is a 61 key, 5-octave keyboard.
And I'll third WA's opinion. I've had a 49e for two weeks now, and it's one of the best "toys" I've ever owned. Takes GB to a whole new level of enjoyment!
I also have an M-Audio Keystation 49e, but the M-Audio/Evolution MK-449C and the MK-461C have many more MIDI control features, they are deluxe versions of the 49e. The 49e does not allow you to control any MIDI parameters except for modulation, pitch bend, volume, and a few other advanced functions. I started out with the 49e, but have now graduated to an Evolution MK-461C.
