What if I change my mind?

So I thought I was the proud owner of iLife '11 when it arrived two days after it's release. Given all that I have read here, especially around the iPhoto issues, I have been very reluctant to install it, and it has been sitting on my desk, uninstalled, ever since.

My question is if I am unhappy with iPhoto '11 and or experience some of the same issues, and I do a complete restore from my Time Machine with my latest back up, will my iPhoto '09 work as flawlessly it did before? Or will there be crazy photo pathways to restore, etc.

I am hoping the former. If the latter, I probably will be returning iLife '11.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. BTW I have an iPhoto library of around 8000 photos.

So just to be sure I am understanding, as I am a beginner...

1. Back up my current iPhoto library. Is this as simple as dragging the iPhoto Library icon (User > Pictures > iPhoto Library) onto another hard drive?

2.Then perform the install of iLife 11 with 9.1 update before launching for the first time (should I be repairing permissions too?)

3.And if I experience issues, then reinstall iPhoto '09 from the original disks (do I have these disks if my MBP already came with ilife '09 pre-installed?) Is there anything special I need to do to re-import the previously backed up iphoto library or just click and drag?

Thanks for the help and replies. I really do want to give iphoto '11 a fair shake.

Yes just drag it as a single entity to a different location (for this purpose it can be on the same drive even since you are looking for protection from an upgrade failure not a hardware failure)

Yes - repairing permissions is not required but is a reasonable insurance step

3.And if I experience issues, then reinstall iPhoto '09 from the original disks (do I have these disks if my MBP already came with ilife '09 pre-installed?) Is there anything special I need to do to re-import the previously backed up iphoto library or just click and drag?

reinstall iPhoto - go to your receipts folder ("Your hard drive" ==> library ==> receipts) and remove any iPhoto receipts and reinstall from the restore disks that came with your computer - do a custom install of bundled software only

For more information click here for the MacWorld article on reinstalling OS X applications.

you do not "import" your old library - you just drag it to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto
