Canon MF4150 printer will not respond when connected through Time Capsule

All softwares have been updated to the latest version.

The Printer Utility shows "Printer is not responding"

When trying to print, "Canon UFR II Printer Driver" error 10322 pops up. Can't communicate.

HELP!

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.

Unfortunately there is no solution to this symptom. The Canon UFR2 driver for Mac OS X cannot be used when the printer is connected to the USB port of an Airport product, such as Time Capsule. The same limitation exists when the printer is connected via USB to a 3rd party print server.

About the only network option you have is to connect the MF4150 to a Windows computer and use the following steps in this article.

http://iharder.sourceforge.net/current/macosx/winmacprinter/

Or replace the MF4150 with a printer that has built-in Ethernet or wireless.

Sorry for the bad news...

If the TC ran the same OS X as the Mac then it could be possible to install the driver on the TC and share, just as you would with Mac sharing. But since that is not the case, then I don't believe you can install any driver. This is the situation with my Airport Extreme and I would expect the same applies to the TC, since it is basically the same thing but with a hard drive.

As I said before, the limitation is the Canon UFR2 driver. Had they made it so that it would work with this type of connection then you would have no issue.

Ok. I swapped the printer with the MF4690 which has ethernet. Works fine now.

But I cannot get the duplex working. The printer utility cannot connect to the printer.

Also, my pc laptop cannot see the printer on the network. I have added the network workgroup in the WINS tab to match my pc laptop, but no dice.

any thoughts on this one?

Thanks in advance...

You cannot use the Layout menu with the UFR2 driver. Instead there will be a Finishing menu where you can select duplex.

The printer utility cannot connect to the printer.

The UFR2 utility is still probably configured for the previous printer. If you open the utility and select the Printer menu you can then choose to search for printers. This should make the MF appear in the list of available devices and when selected it should open a configuration window.

When a printer is networked, unless it is running a broadcasting protocol, then it won't be 'seen'. So to add the printer in Windows you need to select to add a local printer and then select Standard TCP/IP for the protocol. You then need to enter the IP address of the printer and then browse for the printer driver, which will be located under Canon.
