Unresponsive iphone 4 screen?

I received my iphone 4 in the post 2 days ago. I have had constant problems with the screen becoming unresponsive. It seems to work most of the day, however sometimes it will just freeze up and the touchscreen will be un-responsive. The manual buttons on the phone still function, just not the touch. I have tried re-setting the phone. This doesn't appear to do anything and the phone can sometimes be unresponsive for up to an hour. Any ideas or fixes?
Cheers!

i experienced the same way.. while playing, the screen freezes for so many times and i am also suffering from its battery, 8hours maximum just sending text message. i send it back to where i bought it, it is only a 4-day old before sending it to them but they said that my iPhone4 is in good condition which i totally doubt because of the problems i am encountering. i think they just don't want to replace it. can someone help?

I've had a similar problem for several months. Sometimes when I receive a call I can't hang up with the touch screen. I either wait until the other end hangs up or I hit the power button.

When I get back, I can't do much of anything. App icons will look like I'm pushing them but they don't do anything. I can fix it by holding the power button, shutting off and restarting.

Today I tried waiting. After about 5 minutes things started working. It's like the phone is too busy to respond until it unwinds whatever it's doing. I haven't tried restoring and reloading everything yet.

I'm on AT&T in Peoria, IL.

It doesn't appear that anyone has posted to this thread in quite some time. However, I am having and have had this issue for quite some time now. My iPhone 4 (4.3.5) touch screen freezes periodically and actually pretty frequently. Theres really no rhyme or reason to when or why it does it and I don't recall ever having this issue before upgrading to the latest iOS update.

Most of the time what I am able to reslove the issue (temporary) is pressing the power button. On occasion I have shut the phone all of the way down and restarted it.

Here are the issues that I am expereincing:

  • Call finished and unable to end call on touchscreen
  • Incoming call touchscreen will be unresponsive and unable to answer
  • During call have another call come in and touchscreen will be unresponsive, cannot ignore, answer other caller...nothing
  • Press the home button to wake the phone and the slide to unlock will not slide
  • Press app icon (any app) and the icon idicates that I have pressed it however, the phone does not respond and the app does not open.

I took my phone into the apple store and they ran diagnostics on it and could not find any issues other than a few dropped calls. The "Genius" that was assiting me told me that my iOS must be corrupted and that we needed to do a complete restore. So, thats what we did and I left the store. I'm not sure exactly how long it took for it to start happening again but it wasn't long. In fact I'm not sure that restoring it did anything at all.

So...I'm not sure what is causing this and I don't know what to do about the issue now. I pre-purchased my iPhone 4 when they came out and have had it since then (out of 1yr warranty and did not purchase applecare).

I do wonder if I could possibly have a "bad" app installed on my phone that is causing this to happen.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful...I am really frustrated at this point.

I know that this is an old(ish) thread now but... my phones doing this too and I have installed next to no apps on it so I really doubt it's a bad app problem. Seems to be quite a few people complaining of the same problem. Mine has done it since I got it and I've restored it fully about 10 times since then and it hasn't sorted itself out, I'm taking mine in to an apple store on Sunday hoping that they'll give me a same day replacement like it says they should under my business contract... but knowing apple they'll probably fob me off telling me my phone is fine. It's not the biggest issue in the world but having such an expensive phone we really shouldn't have to turn it off completely to be able to use it once we've been on the phone!! Hope you've managed to get yours sorted out

My iPhone 4S has always been slow to respond and it is becoming worse. Often it take several touches from different angles before the screen responds to my touches at all or it will keep putting the cursor in the wrong place if I am trying to highlight text or put the cursor in a specific place within text. It's driving me nuts.
