Look to see whether you have two imput HDMI ports on your AV system or on your TV. If not, you'll need a HDMI switcher, if you want fewer wires or all HDMI for true HD. Alternative is to use RCA cables.

In the description, he or she already has a Blu Ray player connected to the system, which usually has one HDMI port. Some newer AV systems have two HDMI ports with a built-in switcher. To use the Apple TV HDMI output, the above system has to have an available HDMI in order to connect.

If the system does not have an extra HDMI input port, he or she can buy one (lots on Ebay)...try to find one with a remote.

So, saying connect it to your TV via HDMI is not very clear and assume that the TV has more that one HDMI port.

It would help if you specify exactly what Samsung Bluray Surround System you have. They offer several that have HDMI inputs. Im assuming that since you mention you are using optical audio that your Samsung AV unit does not have them. If it does then you should be using them.

the blu-ray will be connected to the TV via HDMI, same as the Sky+ HD box.
Most current HD TV's have 3 HDMI ports (and at worst 2 HDMI ports).

we can already assume the TV has at least 2 HDMI ports due to what is already connected to it.
so let's actually read what the OP said and not assume that the TV only has 1 HDMI port, when the facts show that it must have at least 2 already.
