Q: Cache specifics

Each time I check out a project do all the proxies download to my local cache? IE if I still have proxies from the project in my local cache from a previous edit, do the old ones get written over? Reused? Erased?

Also...if I add a video asset to my open FCP project from FCS, then check it back in does the asset get duplicated?

Proxies do not get re-downloaded nor over written if they're already cached to your local system. You do want to go into your client app's Preferences (FCSvr menu, like all other apps) and clear the cache from time to time so it doesn't eat up all your local drive space.

To add an asset to an FCP project you're currently working on, you do NOT check it out. The way to do this is drag-and-drop it from a FCSvr window onto your FCP Browser window. This way, FCSvr knows you added an asset directly from the server into an FCP project file.

Great book you need to get, explains everything very well. "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Server 1.5", by Peachpit Press. Cheapest price is on Amazon.
