How do I add black frames?

I'm working in Imovie 11 and I want to fade to black in between clips, but stay on just a black screen for several seconds before fading back into the next clip. No matter how long I try to make my transitions, it doesn't change anything. It seems like the maximum length of transitions is 4:00. Is this correct? If so, is there another way to achieve a solid black screen between clips before fading in again?
Thanks!

Hi Emily,

Just to expand on Tom's advice, if you are not sure where to find it, you can drag a black clip from the "Maps, Backgrounds and Animatics" tab. This is the last tab on the lower far right of the screen, alongside the Transitions tab. Use either the Fade to Black or Cross Dissolve transition each side of the Black clip. You can adjust the duration of the Black clip to your preference.
