audio waveform is visible, but no sound

Trying to edit .MOV files. iMovie '11 plays no sound at all. Sound works fine when files are played through Quicktime. Sound waveform is visible. Yes, my volume is turned up. 🙂

Files were created on Zoom Q3, downloaded onto Macbook white 13", stored in Movies.

Anyone else having problems?

Thanks!

I downloaded the files via the Zoom's built-in USB to one Macbook's desktop, then transferred to the current Macbook desktop via wireless network, and later imported it into iMovie '11.

MPEG 4-video, 640x480 Millions, Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 44100 Hz.

FPS: 30.00, Data size: 2.26 GB, Data rate: 5605.96 kbit/s

Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem as these other people. In the event viewer, clips do not have sound when playing back. In iMovie 09, all these clips worked in both the event viewer and the project window, but now, only in the project window. These files are .MOV from my iPhone and .AVI that were shot with my camera. These all worked prior to iMovie 11. Audio Skimming is "ON." These files, when revealed in Finder and played with Quicktime have sound. I have deleted .plist without effect.

I see other threads with this issue, none solved yet.

I don't know if this is really the solution, but I had the same kind of problem with no sound for added music tracks.

I started a project in iMovie 09 and later upgraded to iLife 11. The music I had added just wouldn't sound. Even iLife sound effects wouldn't produce a single peep. I tried throwing out the preference and cache files, ran Onyx to clean up system caches, reinstalled iMovie from the latest standalone update etc, but to no avail.

Finally, I decided to try a "Consolidate Media" and, lo and behold, sound was restored to all the previously silent clips.

I am having exact same problem. Previously Zoom Q3 clips worked great on prior versions of iMovie. Upgraded all my computers to iMovie 11 and sound is gone on all of them on imported clips, but waveform is there. Since the Zoom Q3 is pretty much designed for concert recording, it makes the result useless. Tried all the .plist, cache deletion, as well as cleanup hints using Onyx, no avail. It's frustrating spending money on new software to find out it drops the ball on such a basic task. Currently using zoom's handyshare. Primitive, but at least it works.
