Q: Color convergence oddity on LCD tv

Hi all, I noticed that my Apple TV is having a strange color alignment issue similar to what you would see on a poorly calibrated rear projection set. It is very apparent on the top menu where even the blue selection highlight is misaligned with its normal position, which in this case is slightly to the right of the highlight. The colors on the movie covers that show up on top are also suffering so much that the colors are shifted almost a literal inch to the left of where they should be. I tried a hard reset, unplugging and replugging in. It might be my imagination but it seems to get worse every time.

The odd thing is that when the screen saver kicks in the images are normal with no color shift. The movies I watch on Netflix are afflicted though! I thought it might be my tv, but every tv menu I bring up appears normal with no color shift.

So far I haven't seen this issue discussed but quite frankly it's awful. I hate watching movies with the color misaligned and it wasn't like this until recently. Please help!

Here's a photo of the problem that I just uploaded. http://bayimg.com/caALOAADH

Also, it appears that the color shift does indeed affect the screen saver. I tried swapping to 2 other HDMI inputs and also swapped the HDMI cable for a different one. Same thing present. This is definitely an Apple TV problem!

This may be an HDMI incompatibility between your TV and the AppleTV or a faulty AppleTV.

Can you test with a different set? if it's the saem on that get the AppleTV replaced.

I think you say you've tried a different HDMI cable (also try another HDMI socket).

Yes, I tried a different cable, one what I have used elsewhere just fine. Also swapped between all 3 HDMI ports that I have. All the same.

I do not have a second tv to try this on.

AppleTV 1 and 2 have not been without HDMI issues in combination with certain TVs. Some of these have been ironed out in later software updates for the 1st gen device.

If you can try with a different TV set and it's the same I'd assume a lemon and get a replacement/refund, but if it works on another set I think it'd be down to an HDMI compatibility issue (most likely the AppleTV's fault as I bet other HDMI devices work fine!).

Send details of your issue here:

So I came home tonight to find that the color is properly aligned on everything. I can only assume that this was some software bug, but I can't imagine how it solved itself when it wouldn't resolve after rebooting and swapping ports etc. Not sure wether I should mark this question answered or not, I suppose that it sort of has been. Thanks for your help in any case, Alley_Cat.
