imovie 11 exporting to quicktime failure to recognize audio edits

I am using imovie 11 and exporting to quicktime, "movie to avi", compression dv/dvc pro. But when I replay the final rendered version none of the audio adjustments I made are recognized. Cutaways that I muted play with full audio. All changes I made to the audio track are not recognized. Sound that I tapered down or snipped out is at full. I used these same export settings with imovie 09 and never had a problem with the audio - particularly the muting on cutaways which I use a lot. Anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions?

Yes, it is being transferred to the end user on a windows machine. And this is something I have to do consistently - since I cannot dump to dvcam and burning on iDVD gives low quality.
Forgive my ignorance, the suggestion to "tried the DV Stream (.dv file extension) leaving off the AVI container?" - not sure how to do that. Would you walk me through it?

i have a similar problem. i have a project that im exporting to avi. tried all methods...need it in avi as it will be played on an old pc that only has wmp9 and cant install new codecs...anyway, when i export to avi i lose all audio edits. i detached the audio from the clips and just had an mp3 as background music. when i export the file i can hear the mp3 file and the audio from the clip as if i never dettached and removed it. why is it causing this?

been pulling my hair out and i cant figure it out! sorry to thread jack..but this is the only post i found wiht similar problem. thanks guys.
