Q: Minimum requirements for client g5 , but you need fcp7 which is intel?

I don't get this? FCP 7 will not work on a ppc so how can a g5 be minimum sys req.?
Am I missing something?

With a G5 you have basic access to Final Cut Server, just to search and use the client app.

You need FCP 7 if you want FCP integration, i.e., to be able to check projects in & out and have FCSvr handle the assets intelligently.

Probably because the Intel-only spec on FCP7 is completely artificial. FCP7 will actually run on a G5 (save for a few features like AVCHD support and Blu-Ray support in Compressor). The only thing keeping it from installing is the installer script. Getting around that can be wonky, but here is a thread at MacRumors that discusses a couple options on how to do it.

FCP6 project files might work with FCSvr 1.5, but there are feature mismatches like the ProRes codecs that can come up and you could see linking issues.

That's why Apple doesn't list G5s as supported for FCP7 and older versions of FCP for use with FCSvr 1.5- incomplete compatibility is no compatibility at all.

First of all, current versions of Final Cut Server, and Final Cut Studio both require an Intel Mac. Not sure where you're info is coming from, but it's very inaccurate. Nowhere does Apple say FCSvr 1.5 will run on a non-Intel Mac.

If you're looking at FCSvr 1.0, Apple clearly states it is NOT compatible with FCP 7, and FCSvr 1.5 does in fact require FCP 7 (FCS 3).

Apple does say the "client" app for FCSvr 1.5 can run on machines that don't run FCP 7, as stated, they can only do browsing, upload assets, the like. Windows machines can run the "client" app, but they can't run FCP at all. I think you're confusing specs here.

Many of my clients and students have tried to run FCP 7 on non-Intel Macs, and they all ended up with major headaches. Don't try it, it really doesn't hold up in the long run.

All of this is explained in the must-have book for any FCSvr user, "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Server 1.5" by Peachpit Press. Best price is on Amazon. It's all also explained in the Installation and Admin manuals for FCSvr located online at http://documentation.apple.com
