Screen Rotate on IPhone

Sometimes I have a hard time to get the screen to rotate am i doing something wrong or is there an easier way to get it to rotate

Iphone4, iOS 4

You have to "bang it"? That's not good. No banging is required to get the screen to rotate - just gently turn it from landscape to portrait.

If you've been banging the phone a lot, maybe the orientation sensor is damaged. If a reset doesn't help I'd suggest taking it into an Apple Store.

The screen rotation lock is accessed by double-clicking the home button and swiping to the right at the bottom. It's the left-most icon.

Just a silly question... when you rotate the phone, are you holding it mostly flat (so the screen is parallel to the floor) or do you hold it up and tip it over?

The sensor doesn't detect you spinning it into landscape if it remains nearly flat/parallel to to floor. Does that make sense?
