remove access to mac partition in windows

I am setting up macs with bootcamp in a student lab. They don't need to see the mac partition while in windows. I noticed that before installing the windows bootcamp drivers that the mac partition does not show. I would like to install all the bootcamp drivers, but I would like to disable the viewing of the mac partiton. How can I do this?

thx

Hi Ws,

the AppleMNT.sys is the driver for enableing read access to your OSX partition while in Windows.

You can disable this driver by doing the following while in Windows:

1. Click Start, then My Computer.
2. Double-click on the BOOTCAMP (C:) drive At the These files are hidden screen, click on Show the contents of this folder.
3. Double-click on the Windows folder. At the These files are hidden screen, click on Show the contents of this folder.
4. Double-click on the System 32 folder. At the These files are hidden screen, click on Show the contents of this folder.
5. Double-click on the drivers folder.
6. Locate the file AppleMNT (it is a .sys file) and rename it to something like AppleMNT_keep.
7. Click Start, then click on Shut Down.
8. Click Restart to restart Windows.

Since the OSX partition might still be shown in the 'Disk Management Console' you might wanna restrict access to this console as well.

Regards

Stefan

Hi Fortuny,

I am having an issue that might be related to the issue of the Mac partition being visible to the Windows partition. See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12966563&#12966563

Briefly, folder redirection is not working on my 24" iMac running XP Pro SP 3. We use folder redirection at my work to back up all users My Documents folder to the server. They can then access their My Documents folder from any machine logged onto the network.

I was hoping your solution of renaming the AppleMNT file might work in my case, but unfortunately, I just tried it and folder redirection is still not working.

Any other suggestions?

Cheers!

Thomas
