I am pleased to report that, after several days of heavy use, my Magic Trackpad is still working without problems. Also, iTunes always recognizes my iPhone. So unplugging the Mac and all USB device cables for a minute or two appears to be a real cure.

Sadly, my Magic Trackpad stopped working again yesterday morning, after more than a week of reliable performance. I did the unplug/replug drill again, and it started working again. Now, this afternoon, it has stopped working again. The unplug/replug drill has it working once again, but I no longer have any confidence that it will continue to work reliably.

I would try a PRAM reset, if you haven't done that already. That works for me every time (luckily I've only had to do it twice).

I am SO GLAD I found this thread. I just bought a "Magic" Trackpad for my circa-2008 Mac Pro and it wasn't being very Magical. It would discover the device but not pair with it. It was only being recognized as a generic trackpad.

For me, it when I attempted to discover the device, the Trackpad System Preferences dialog would first say...

Found "Apple Wireless Trackpad". I would click the continue button and after a few seconds, it would display a message stating "The pairing attempt was unsuccessful". But the setup window was also jumbled and out of sorts at this point.

I was just about to give up hope on this thing but I gave it one last search and then I found this thread. I uninstalled USB Overdrive and made sure that the aforementioned files were gone. I rebooted the Mac, and like magic, my Magic Trackpad is now working!
