Just updated to latest version of iTunes. Trying to import an audio cd to iTunes. iTunes will read the cd, and I can see the album & artist name under 'Devices' on the left side of the iTunes. iTunes will actually play the cd, but when I click 'Import CD', I immediately receive a message box that says "iTunes has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." And then iTunes shuts down.

I'm slightly techno-tarded, and can't seem to figure out how to fix this so that I can import the cd to my iTunes. Can anyone help?

Your Windows 7 will have been recording information about that one. Fingers crossed, it'll give us a heads up on what is causing the error.

Head into your problem Reports and Solutions Control panel (or the Windows 7 equivalent ... the "Action Center"?) and open your Problem History. Look for recent iTunes problem reports generated at the time of the errors. Open them up and have a look through.

Do they all seem to be saying pretty much the same thing? If so, please paste a copy of a typical problem report into a reply here so we can have a look.

Perfect, thanks. If we take the problem report at face value, there's a problem with one of your Apple Application Support program files. (iTunes needs a properly functioning AAS in order to work correctly.)

Do you have a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 7, bhoi? (That makes a difference to what I'd try first by way of fixing this.)

    It is a 64 bit.

Thank you SO much for your help, by the way!!!

That's three confirmed reports of this error on Windows 7 64-bit systems I've seen since I start working on your one today, bhoi.

So I'm suspecting now that we're dealing with a bug of some description in the CoreAudioToolbox.dll in the Apple Application Support version 1.4 that came with your iTunes 10.1. But just in case we're dealing with a damaged CoreAudioToolbox.dll (rather than a buggy one), perhaps first try the suggestion I make to Sky in the following thread:

Ok.... just got done following your instructions for the uninstall/reinstall... and it didn't work. So, it is sounding to me like it may be a bug of some sort like you had mentioned?

Do you have any other suggestions, bnoir?
  • 8. Re: Problem Importing CD to iTunes
    b noir Level 9 Level 9 (71,995 points)
Two strikes for the uninstall/reinstall technique. (rrgrant just posted that that one hadn't worked, over in the other thread.)

Would you mind posting your iTunes diagnostics, please, bhoi?

I've got instructions for that here:

OK, not letting me cut & paste the contents of the diagnostics window, but this is what it says exactly:

Optical drive detected f:HP CDDVDW TS-L633N
    *Audio CD found
    *Driver correctly installed
    *Audio CD acessed successfully
    *Audio CD read successfully

    All tests passed.
