Earphones for iPad

I have iPod Touch and recently bought iPad...but the iPod earphones do not fit into iPad plug, the plug seems to be too small...is it supposed to be like that or is there something wrong with iPad?

The headphone jack is the same size in both the iPod and the iPad. I use the same set on my Touch, my Nano (and my Android phone, for what it's worth). Do you have some sort of case on the iPad that may be interfering? Are you inserting it with firm pressure? Have you checked to make sure there is nothing in the jack?

I use the same pair of headphones on my iPhone and my iPad.
Both have a plain standard 3.55 mm headphone jack.

I realize I may be nitpicking but I think they're 3.5mm, not 3.55mm. Regardless, my experience is the same as yours. 😉

I have Bose headphones and the plug does not fit. I even tried another set of earphones and they don't fit into the iPad either. It's like the plug is too short or narrow.

I agree with the "just push harder". I thought I had the same problem and thought that the IPad case was restricting the jack from being able to be used, but when I saw the just push harder comment, I pushed a little harder and it was fine. I think because the IPAD is brand new, it will be forgiving with more use.

ah! wish i'd found this thread earlier. spent lots of time perusing apple site and trying to figure out why my ipod earphones didn't work on the ipad. PUSH HARDER . . . who'd of thought 😉 works like a charm! thanks.

Hmm, I see there is still very tiny gap when the Earphones are plugged in but no matter how much harder I push they won't be recognized by the iPad and i can't get this gap to disappear! That is really really disappointing. I am using the inEar headphones.

Just get a bigger hammer ...

But, seriously, if it doesn't fit then it just doesn't fit. So far I've used Apple, JVC, Sony, and Bose headphones or earbuds and all have fit. Some go in a bit easier than others, perhaps, but the difference is small.

Not familiar with InEar brand, but what I think I'd do is do a visual comparison of their 'standard' 3.5mm mini jack plug and a few others. Their plug may just be mechanically different from most others.

After trying and trying I really have to say that the inEar headphones from Apple are the biggest crap I have ever seen! All other Hedphoens work properly in the iPad but the Original Apple gear is not 100% compatible with another Apple product?

I got it working once (don't aks why it was recognized then) but that was all!

Don't buy the in Ear Headphones from Apple!

I'm having the same problem... my earbuds that came with my ipod classic worked when I first got it- and I went to put them in today, and no-go... they will not fit- it's as if the hole got smaller! I did try pushing EXTRA hard (as advised above!) and almost broke my finger off- and it hurt really bad,.. it will not go in! What do I do?!
