Canon CLC 700/800/ - ColorPASS M20

Hello!

I have a Canon CLC 700/800 printer and a ColorPASS M20 printing rip connected to it.

After upgrading to 10.6.4, I can no longer add the printer. My Mac can't find it. It's probably a driver issue, but it does not seem to be any Snow Leopard drivers existing for this printer, nor for the M20 rip.

The updated driver package that Canon released a couple of weeks prior to Snow Leopard release does not include drivers for my printer.

Is there any way to get this printer working with Snow Leopard?

With a previous version of Mac OS X you would have been using AppleTalk to 'see' the ColorPASS M20 and to print to it. This protocol is no longer supported with Mac OS X 10.6 so you need to configure the M20 to use IP. This will require you to either enable DHCP in the M20 or to manually configure an IP address if there is no DHCP server on your network.

Once you have a valid IP address configured in the M20 you can then use the Generic Postscript driver included with 10.6, as this copier & RIP are too old to have a 10.6 driver. I think the updated driver package you are referring to is for the consumer products - not the business products.

Thanks PAHU. But do you know how to configure the M20 to use IP? The RIP has a little display with some menus, but none of them are for configuring IP address. I've searched for some configuration utility on the inet, but can't find any that works with my other Mac (OSX 10.2).

I've also looked at the client list on my router, but it does not pick up the RIP.

Not true. That is exactly the way you have to configure it but I cannot remember all the steps. I will try to find some documentation on EFI's web site and get back to you.

I don't remember there being a Mac based utility for configuring the network settings. But I believe on the 10.2 Mac you may be able to connect to the M20's internal web page via AppleTalk and make changes that way. Again I will have to get back to you on that one.

To be continued...

Okay, found the M20 Administration Guide but the PDF was locked for copying. So I have written out the procedure for you below.

With regards to the internal web page of the M20, there is a section called Fiery WebSetup. This lets you configure the M20 remotely, however this is only supported over IP and Windows. So since the IP is not yet set then we cannot configure remotely and will have to use the control panel of the M20.

1. Press the Menu button and go to the Functions menu
2. Scroll with the down arrow and press the button next to Reboot Server
3. At the setup message, press any key
4. Choose Run Setup
5. Press the button next to Network Setup
6. Select Protocol Setup
7. Select TCP/IP Setup
8. Set 'Enable TCP/IP for Ethernet' to Yes
9. Enter a valid IP address for your network
10. Enter the correct subnet mask for your network
11. If there is a router on the network you can enter this IP address in Gateway Setup
12. You can now save and exit the Network Setup but while still in Network Setup you can enter Service Setup
13. Enter LPD Setup and set 'Enable LPD' to Yes
14. Exit from Service Setup and then exit from Network Setup
15. Then select Exit Setup. This will reboot the M20
