iPad just stopped working; will not turn on

Same for me!! I was playing with an app and it just turned off on me and would not turn back on. I too thought maybe the battery died, but I knew I had at least 80% of battery life left, and I connected it to the charger anyway. After 20mins, it still wouldn't turn on. I found this discussion on a search engine and held the power button and home button for 10 seconds, and after about 5 seconds it turned right back on! Thank you so much!!!!!!!

Thank you so much for this post. I had just finished posting a blog entry and sat my iPad down for a moment. When I returned the screen was blank and I could not turn it on. Frantic does not begin to explain the state I was in. My iPad is sued for data collection on a major research project. With interviews lined up for this afternoon, this technology failure would have had catastrophic effects. I tried your solution and it worked. Thank goodness there are people willing to share solutions.

Same thing here. Your solution worked great. I am concerned that it happened at all. Any thoughts why?? Makes me nervous!!

Can not wait to try this remedy when I get home, my Ipad stopped working this morning and I was ready to take it back, but am still curious as to why it happens, and what process is happening when both these buttons are pressed reboot? or something more? Thanks in advance.

Mine just stopped working this evening too...and I thought before I lose it at the store tomorrow let me search the web...and this was the first thing that came up when I put in "why did my ipad just stop working" That the Lord, it was an easy fix...had my heart racing there for a bit. But I wonder what it happen do any of you tech types have a clue...or is this just an Apple thing?

I had the same problem as Dasiy, but i been trying for two day to get it to working, then i remember to come to the discussion page...i had thought that i had done something to it....I'm so glad that i came to this page, becausr i dont know what i was going to to thank you very much......I GOT MY IPAD BABY BACK!!!!!!!!

Yes my iPad just did same thing and needed to hold down buttons as described (abit more than 10seconds) but it restarted OK.

It just recieved and e-mail - beeped and then totally blank screen. Battery was at 60%+

What causes this I've had no problems before and bought it in November 2010.

Any futher advise appreciated

I got my ipad for my birthday 15th Feb 2011 I have been on it every day since, today I was useing it for about 2 hours then bang! a blank screen, I tried everything, charging it, pushing buttons, talking to it, nothing, I was not happy! my poor little ipad had died on me, I felt sick! how was I going to go on without my Faithfull Friend! I decided to look up apple support, and there it was the answer, I done what you suggested and there she was back to life, what a feeling, you would think that I had won the lottery, I have got my Baby back, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! you are a GENIUS!
What I would like to know though does this happen often!

This just happened to me today and I was going crazy! I am so happy that I decided to check here and find this thread. Why does this happen??? Is there something wrong with my iPad and should I take it to the Apple store??? I have only had my iPad since June 2010.

I LOVE YOU ALL! I freaked out when my iPad stopped working. The on/home button trick worked like a charm. Now I can go to sleep. Thank you thank you.

Mine too. I have had this iPad since September. No problems until today. Read the morning news, twitter, facebook and set the thing down to get coffee. Came back to a black screen. Thanks to this forum I was able to get it going again - Home + Start for 10 seconds.

Why, Apple, did this happen all of the sudden?

Halleluyah (sp incorrect) These posts just saved me a big trip to the Apple store. Same thing happened. Ipad just suddenly stopped. I followed your directions, pressed both buttons at the same time for ten seconds. A picture appeared showing me to connect the ipad to my computer (no words) then it went off. I connected it, and I got a message for a new version to download. I did all that, and now everything is A-OK.

Amazing to me that so many of us had the same problem. And so many of us just LOVE our ipads
