iPad just stopped working; will not turn on

Dear, you just made my day. silimilar situation happened and wasn't sure what to do. my i pad arrived about 2 days a go. so i'm really new to this. just googled for a solution and first thing came was your solution. Thanks a million and it did work.

I'm glad that you guys and gals talked about this very subject because like many of you, i was looking at my ipad went for a run and when i came back the screen was blank. i tried various things including the simul-two-step but not long enough. the 10 second rule is the key. sorry for those who went before but thanks for sharing the solution. you don't realize how much you appreciate this sliver of silicon and apps until it seems to evaporate before your eyes. ite in pace. john flannery

I had a semilar problem. When I turned on the Ipad, it would briefly show the apple logo and then go into a semi-black screen and it would not let me do anything else. It had the latest OS and I even reset the Ipad with no success. I also tried the 10 second rule with no success. It lasted for almost a week, so I took it to the apple store. As soon as the technician touch it, it started working ... great... the technician did something that I haven't seen posted anywhere ... he told me that sometimes many programs are running at the same time and these programs need to be closed. So he double clicked the Home buttom and at the bottom many applications were active. He told me all these applications were running and taking memory and sometimes an application conflicts with another one. So, if you are having a blank screen, try to double click the home screen and eliminate running programs and hopefully it helps.

I have done all those things to get my Ipad on and nothing works. It just goes from the Apple logo to the wheel turning. Help!

I can feel your pain! Make sure you are holding down the home button and the on/off button at the top for 10+ seconds. If you stilll have no luck I can only suggest what I was going to do before happening across this forum and that is call the Apple support line, and see what they can suggest.

Hold down the power button and home button for as long as it takes. It took about 45 seconds on mine, but my iPad was finally revived. Hope it helps... Good luck!

Nothing worked. Had to do a complete restore. I really hated to do that since I had done one just last week. It is really a bummer to lose all your stuff. Thanks to all of you that tried to help. jodukes

really dorry to hear that. I suggest you backup your iPad regularly. I have mine set up to backup via iTunes whenever I activate iTunes via my home wifi.

Its a heartbreak when your fav gadget stops working, and I was completely clueless why did it happen and it wouldnt turn on, m quite unlucky with my gadgets as well, lol!! thankfully suggestions here worked, whew, so thankful, that is why I took the pain of coming here and posting my comment, something I never did before! long live Apple! 🙂

My hero. I was, like others, was ready to cry, take the iPad in and a number of other things. Thank you sooo very much for this post. Now to I need to figure out why so that it does not happen again.

Well I hate to sound like a broken record, but the same thing suddenly happened to my beloved iPad tonight and I also panicked. WTH was I going to do now??

As everyone else who found this page I Googled 'why did my iPad go black' and magically I was led to this page. What a HUGE relief to find out the simultaneously pressing the Home & Off/On button (30 or so seconds for me) might just do the trick....and YIPPEE it did.

Dang I love my iPad and suddenly felt cold sweats when I pictured my life without it!
