Can I use my old iPod charger?

I had a 4th generation iPod and still have the charger. It features a Firewire connector and a matching cable (Firewire to 30-pin iPod connector).

Can I use this to charge my iPhone 4?

iPhone 4, iOS 4, Vintage 4th gen iPod charger

i have an older ipod not sure which one but over three year old and teh charge working with my new iphone4

The iPhone 4 cannot charge over Firewire. The iPhone 4 does not include the necessary hardware for charging via Firewire.

Thanks Lyssa, you were right:

When I plug it in, the display of my iPhone says that the charger is not supported.

It's definitely too bad you can't use it. I've got various Firewire iPod accessories that I can't use with my phone 😟
