delivery time on new CTO macbook air :/

Hi there,

ive recently decided to jump into the Mac world and purchased a 13" Macbook Air Full Spec.
I live in Hong Kong, and their is a distinct lack of apple stores here, so i purchased through a "premium reseller" (i did look at the online store, but as i work 6 days a week, delivery would be impossible unfortunately).
I purchased it on the 30th October, placing my order with them so they could get the correct spec delivered. Its now the 15th November and still they have not got it in stock. I was told 7 business days.
They say they have been contacting apple to find out where it is, but they have not had a reply yet.
Is this normal, has anyone else had delays in getting delivery? I thought as i live in hong kong then it may be quicker as it doesnt have far to travel!!
This is starting to test my patience now, as i expected better service/better response from them after spending over HK$15000, around 1200 quid.

regards

Macbook Air 13" (Late 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.5)

No, this isn't what a regular Apple-customer should expect.

When I ordered my full spec (BTO) Macbook Air 13-inch directly on the Apple-store it took one week from order to delivery. Normally it's three days building time, and the rest i delivery time. Apple always informs the customer about expected build time and a estimation for delivery date.

No, I don't think it's normal not getting an answer. I would suspect that your "premium reseller"
might have forgotten your order and are blaming Apple. Give them a call and ask for the information Apple has given them!

I hope you will enjoy your MacBook Air!

Hi cornishbrooksy,

If you're purchasing the unit via a 3rd party, not through Apple directly, then you really need to be on the case of the reseller (not Apple). There's any number of reasons why you haven't gotten the product yet and none of us here can tell you why.

For example, I once purchased a computer through a "premium reseller" who informed that they buy direct from Apple. After 3 weeks of taking my money and not delivering my product I later discovered that they themselves were going through another reseller and were being blacklisted due to not paying their bills to the other middle man.

Perhaps cancelled your order and moving forward with another reseller is the next best step.

I ordered a fully loaded 13" MacBook Air (250GB disk, 4GB memory, faster processor) from the Apple Store on Wednesday, November 3 with free shipping. The machine arrived at my home in Oakland, CA on Monday, November 8 having left Shanghai on Friday and traveling via Anchorage, Memphis, and Oakland.

Interestingly enough, a battery checking application (Coconut Battery) indicated that the machine was already a month old when shipped, so there apparently quite a few of these in inventory.

Just to update everyone.
I have now recieved a full refund. Today marked 3 weeks since i placed my order and they still were not able to fulfill it or give me a date. I tried to get a refund earlier in the week but they were very hesitent, leading me to file a complaint to consumer advice board here in HK as they broke 2 of the "consumer rules" here. Will now withdraw that as the refund has been recieved now.
Will think about it again soon, was really looking forward to owning an Air, but will have to wait until the new year before i try again with ordering from a new shop.
Thank you for all your advice.

I had the same problem too. I ordered on 20th Oct from DG Store in HK and after 5 weeks there was still no answer. I got feed up and cancelled my order today and got a refund.

I did some searching and found that others who ordered from resellers also experienced delays, so it seems apple are restricting supplies to resellers and reserving for their online orders or stores. People who ordered online at apple already got their new cto macair in around 10 days. I should have done this earlier.

I have made an order today online and apple advise delivery time of 6/12 to 8/12. Suggest you order online. You can have it shipped to your work address. Thats what I did.

Hallo there.
Have you received your mac that they promissed to be deliver between 6 to 8 December ? I Macbook Air CTO (11.6 inch 1.6MHz 4 Gb memory) on 12 December thru Apple Indonesia online store. It is stated that my order scheduled to be shipped within 3 business days (15 December) and be delivered between 22 to 24 December 2010. When I checked my order online at 17 December, my MBO has not been shipped yet. Whom should I contact to know what happened to my order.

I ordered yet another MacBook Air on December 30th.
I was said the shipment would take around 1-3 business days (means 12/31, 01/01 and sundays don't count)
I was also told the delivery estimate was between Jan 7th and Jan 13th.
Then the MacBook Air shipped on Jan 3rd and I was told the deliver estimate was scheduled for Jan 7th at 4:30 pm.
However, BIG SURPRISE, on Jan 5th at 9:35 am, there it was the box waiting for me in the front door. 🙂
