iPad battery runs out even when it's turned off !!

My iPad is using up its battery even when it is turned off 😟

Maybe related - when I try to restart by pressing off and home buttons, it sits for ages, spinning and doing nothing.

Any ideas, or remedies?

When you say that you turn it off, do you mean that you press and hold the sleep/wake button until "Slide to turn off" appears, which you then slide? If not, your iPad is not turning off. It is going into sleep mode. In addition, if you have an iPad 2 with Smart Cover, do note that the cover does not turn the device off. It puts it to sleep. Finally, batteries can loose charge even when off if left alone for an extended period of time. This is natural.
