Help resizing images using aperture

I don't use photoshop and am trying to figure out the best way to size an image of photos to put into a locket. I am not sure if the resizing (not crop) can be done in Aperture or do I need to use a tool like photoshop (or GIMP since I don't own photoshop.) OR instead would this be done in the export settings when I send it to the online printing company?

This is not so much related to what you export, as to the resolution used when printing, and sizing the printer can do, if, as I interpret, you wish to preserve the pixel count for max clarity?

When printing from Aperture, you can size the photo in the dialogue, particularly with A3.

As I am not printing locally but with a third party printing company (Or if I used apples printing service?) where I need to upload the photo file once it is exported is there a method that also would work?

Jeff,

The printing service should only need to know the size at which you want it printed. At that point they can adjust the PPI to a number that will shrink the print size, but not destroy any pixels.

You can adjust the DPI as you Export if you wish, but that should not be necessary. To change the DPI, choose JPEG Original, say, and click on Edit and you can change the DPI to a higher number, and export.

If you export any photo, open it in Preview, click on Tools and choose Adjust size then you can see the impact of changing the Resolution on inches/or metric measure, which is what the printer can do. In Adjust Size be sure to Deselect the option to Resample -- the latter would otherwise remove pixels and result in a lower resolution.

Just a side note, that because I am printing a photo for a locket, I am not only printing the photo on a "wallet size" but also will need to make sure the face in the photos is the size of the locket. Would this change how to size the photo? I am still going to try preview to resize the image but maybe there is a better way in apertue to make the face the size of the locket?

Make a Duplicate Version of this photo. Then with the crop tool in Aperture use the square and crop to the portion of the photo that has the face. Then separately export this version and ask for it to be printed to be a square with dimensions equal to locket. You cannot avoid this crop to only have the face. Is the locket circular or oval? If the latter then crop first to a rectangle, such 3 x 4 or 4 x 5.

I actually have a little app named Picturesque that crops to such shapes as would be used in a locket. See:
