Hi All,

I know this is probably the wrong board and I have already offended some by mentioning the 'M' word (not Mac!) but I'm not sure where else to ask.

I have recently converted to a mac user and was wondering if anyone knows if there is any way I can import my old access databases. I don't know how to approach this or indeed if it is indeed possible at all?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

There is no Mac version of Access, so you need to figure out what you can get out of Access in it's export feature and then see what you can bring over to a Mac database app. Have you chosen one?

For instance this

http://www.google.com/search?q=access%20to%20filemaker%20pro&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

details some of the ways you can convert from Access to FileMaker products.

Thanks for the reply,

I'm only looking for something very simple, the only this I use access for at home is aa address database for Christmas cards! I know I could use my 'contacts' but I don't really want all these people in my 'contacts'.

I suppose the simplest solution would be to export from access to excel, then import. I only want to avoid having to retype all my addresses!

Thanks

(loving my new mac book pro!)

Hello Jayne,

If you can export from Access to Excel, then you can import on the Mac either to Microsoft Excel if you've gone out and bought the Mac version, or to Numbers, the spreadsheet in the iWork productivity suite.
Once in Numbers, especially, you can do a mail merge to Pages and thus print your envelopes. If you add extra columns, you can even print personalised greetings for the Christmas cards.

For a while I was in despair as there didn't seem to be any functional inexpensive database for Mac OS X to replace the venerable AppleWorks (and I hated Bento for its insistence on printing out field names!). But since discovering how to print only selected rows and/or columns from a Numbers spreadsheet, I've realised I don't actually need a formal "database" app!

All the best,

Archie
