Droping multiple pins on maps app

My boss handed over his iPad and asked me to drop a pin at each of the 9 locations he will be visiting while on a business trip. I have the map app but only on my iphone and am certainly not this well versed on it. How do I drop multiple pins and then how can I link them together for directions? Thanks!

Hi, CM,

Are you aware that you can bookmark locations? Tap the round blue "i" icon and you'll get a window with an Add to Bookmarks button. You can then bring up all the bookmarked locations by tapping the "book" icon and selecting Bookmarks at the bottom of the window.

As to suggesting things to Apple, use their feedback pages:

Regards.

Thanks, I know how to do all those things. I was hoping to drop 9 pins at one time but from what I've been able to dig up and for as long as I've been messing with it, it seems that feature is not available. Dear Apple, Consider revising the next version of maps so it can do this?

1. log into Google maps on a computer and create a map of the area you want as a mymap
2. click the directions button on the left and paste the addresses you want on the map into a destination. Each location has to go into a separate destination. I haven't found any automatic way to achieve this, ie csv file import
3. Click the get directions button under the list and it will show the route and the pins on the map. To change the route just drag the destinations in the list to the order you want. You can also change the streets that google has selected on the map.
4. When you are happy with the route, click the Link button on the right and email that link to yourself so you can get it into the iPad.
5. In your iPad, touch and hold the link in the email and it will open up google maps in Safari (not the maps app) and all your visit points and route is shown there.
6. Add it to your home screen or bookmarks so you don't lose it or take a screen shot if you don't have good 3G service.

It would be nice if there was an app or Google function in the app that takes a group of addresses into the map automatically but I haven't found it.

Another option I've found is Maps.Me https://itunes.apple.com/app/id510623322?_1lr=1

It allows you to drop multiple pins.

After you drop a pin (really a blue dot), tap Save to create a pin at that location. At that point you can set the pin color, name it, assign it to a category, create new categories, and attach a note to it.

Maps.Me is best known for pre-downloadable maps which can be viewed when offline / out of service area.

Jack Stout,

I'm very sorry you don't find my app useful. It wasn't my intention to mislead anyone. The app does exactly what I said it does ("It allows to drop/save multiple pins").

The original poster asked how to, "...drop a pin at each of the 9 locations he will be visiting while on a business trip". My app is specifically made to drop, save, and view multiple locations on a map at once. It was created out of frustration with Apple's maps for only being able to show 1 "bookmark" at a time. We don't have driving directions (yet), but other than that it seems like the app is exactly what the OP was asking for.

Just in case this helps - there's 3 ways to quickly enter locations in Pinbox:

  1. Long-tap on the map exactly where you want the pin to be.
  2. Tap the "Drop Pin" button, which will either drop the pin the the center of the map or at your location if it's visible.
  3. Search for a location by name or address.

Sorry for any confusion.

From the Users Guide:

Marking a Location with a Drop Pin
A drop pin lets you mark a location by hand.
Use a dropped pin: Touch and hold any location on the map to drop a pin.
Or, you can drag or tap the bottom-right corner of the screen, then tap Drop Pin.
A pin drops on the map. Touch and hold the pin, then drag it to any location you
choose.

Getting Directions
You can get step-by-step driving, public transit, or walking directions.
Get directions:
1 Tap Directions.
2 Tap the fields at the top of the screen to enter your starting and ending locations.
Normally, iPad starts with your current location (if available).
If an address is in your contacts list, tap , choose the contact, and tap Directions To
Here or Directions From Here.
Tap to reverse the directions.
3 Select directions for driving ( ), public transit ( ), or walking ( ) at the bottom of the
screen.
The available travel options depend on the route.
4 Do one of the following:

To view directions one step at a time, tap Start, and then tap to see the next leg of
the trip. Tap to go back.

To view the directions in a list, tap Start, and then tap . Tap any item in the list to see
a map showing that leg of the trip. Tap Route Overview to return to the overview
screen.
You can also get directions by finding a location on the map, tapping the pin that
points to it, tapping , then tapping Directions To Here or Directions From Here.

Love Google Search. I use it instead of a forum search and it brought me right to this post. I too have been frustrated (well for the three days I have had my new iPad) about not being able to save to My Places from it. Tried it out a couple of times and using the Safari Google Maps allows me to do what the Google Maps app won't.

Thanks for the advice. Turning my computer on less and less now.

I know there's a new app coming out on May 15, 2012 (I think) called "Canvassmate" that allows this to be done. My company is beta testing it, right now and it's incredibly helpful with what we do. We can drop hundreds of pins on a map at any given time. It's mainly used for our sales staff while they are out canvassing neighborhoods. Again, I don't think it's going to be released until next week, but I know you can sign up for it at canvassmate.com for free. Worth a try, I guess. Hope that helps!

I don't think this is possible in the iPad version of google maps, but is very easy on the full (non mobile) version of google maps.

Google Maps is part of Google's Internet resources. Google Maps allows users to create their own maps in order to plan travel routes or determine where a specific location is in an area. When you are creating your own map you can drop pins, also known as placemarks, to create landmarks or points of interest on your map. You can drop as many pins on your map as you want and save the changes to your Google account. Have a question? Get an answer from Online Tech Support now!

Paulburd,

Was reading this thread attempting to find ways to enter multiple locations quickly and saw your post. Quickly went to the app store and purchased without much thought and discover it doesn't do this at all. This simply allows one to save in different sets of pins, which is nice, but not at all what the OP or myself were looking for...

Thanks for basically nothing
