Time Machine to transfer to new iMac

I am sure this is already here in the forum.

I am getting ready to upgrade my iMac to a new iMac. Can I restore or basically copy all setings, files and applications from my Time Machine / Time Capsule back-up to the new iMac once I am connected at home?

Thanks!

Use +Setup Assistant+ when your shiny new Mac first starts up.

See #19 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

If the old Mac is still available, it will be much faster to transfer directly from it than your Time Capsule. If not, connect the new Mac to the TC via Ethernet cable. Or make a "clone" of it to an external HD, and transfer from that.

Awesome. It looks like both can handle 800.

Yay!

Can you point me to the step-by-step when I turn on the new iMac and am ready to clone my current iMac?

It's not a "clone," but I did. See #19 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
