1st generation ATV has died

Hi all. I have tried unplugging and re-booting several times, it goes through the cool graphics etc. but then a black screen appears and the menu never shows up. The remote makes its usual little bleeps but there is nothing on the television screen.

How can I get the menu back? Basically it is just dead and useless now.
