Printer offline due to Airport

Airport Extreme Base station with both a prnter and external hard drive connected. Had been working flawlessly until about a month ago. That was a Lexmark c510 printer, which suddenly began coughing up Software print errors and perpetually trying to reconfigure. I thought this was the printer's software going bad on me.

I replaced it with an HP CP2025 printer. It, too, will not print when connected to the Airport. Printer screen shows "Printer Ready" until a job is sent, and then the printer is suddenly Offline. I swapped USB cables and tried again. No go. I plugged the printer directly into the CPU, and it prints just fine. So...after a lot of cash spent, it seems I focused on the wrong piece of hardware and something has gone amiss in the Airport. I see there are other reports in the last month or two of others having similar print problems with various printers. Anybody have any idea if some firmware update has slaughtered the print capacity of Airport Extremes?

This describes my issue exactly. In my case, it's a Brother HL-2040, but everything else is the same: it's attached to my Airport Extreme base station, and up until a few weeks ago (going back at least a year or more) it had been working flawlessly.

As with yours, printer status shows "Printer Ready" until I print -- and then it becomes "offline". Printing via USB directly plugged into my Macbook works fine.

Also, Airport Utility shows no printers connected. It was definitely showing before, so I'm not sure why it disappeared. I WAS using the base station with a powered USB hub (also connected to a hard drive, which is still connecting fine), but I took the hard drive and hub off for troubleshooting purposes. No improvement.

I have a feeling something got updated recently and it's screwing things up...

I've resolved my situation here by resetting the AEBS to factory default and then redoing all the settings from the ground up. I've no idea why it went out of whack. This reset also included my eliminating the old printer description under Print & Fax in the System Preferences and recreating that as well. The "new" version of the printer is working--I've now printed from both the CPU and one laptop, but had to recreate the descriptions on each; and when I inadvertently printed to the old description before I deleted it, I got the same offline message. So just resetting the AEBS with the current printer description in place was not enough to fix things.

I just bought a new HP Photosmart Premium and I found out that when I restart my cable modem, I can print through my airport while it is connected. Once my cable modem restarts and the internet is now again working through the airport, I lose the wireless connection to my printer. It's as if it can only do one thing at a time. It can only print with no internet, or not print when I have internet. Rebooting everything doesn't work either.

I have been having the same offline printer problem with my mac and no problem with the pc.
Got fed up looking for solutions and called Brother
Problem solved !!
Go to system preferences ... print and fax... go to the printer name and highlight it
go the the minus sign( below) ( the printer name should no longer show)
Go to the + sign then click on Default .. the printer name should show up... higlight it and Add

then it works. Hope this helps..
