Getting started with Mail

I'd like to give Mail a shot in order to consolidate my use of several different email accounts.

1- I don't need to have a .mac account to use mail, correct?
2-Is there an info page that guides you through the process of starting the use of Mail and
importing links from email accounts like hotmail and Yahoo?

thanks

Correct.

In order to read mail from Mail, you need a POP3 or IMAP account. For Yahoo, that means you need to upgrade to their Yahoo Plus service to be able to use Mail. Hotmail may work for you, though:

Good luck!
