ok my itunes hasn't worked for months and i searched all over this site for a solution.. i ve tried deleteting the SC info file, running the MISCONFIG and enabling just itunesHelper... and i deleted the Norton AntiVirus
deleting the SC info didn't do anything for me
but editting the MISCONFIG helped me a bit but i had to do it every time i booted my computer.. also i could not add songs to the library.. if i tried to, it would just close and not open again... so i had to move the song manually into the iTUnes folder, and open the song file with iTUnes.. but now my iTunes just closes if i open any folder!!!... when i open my document, or my computer, or any folder on my desktop...it closes and does not open again..
someone please help me..

When you did the MSCONFIG, what did you have to disable to get iTunes to work?

Sounds like you have some malware/virus, but list what you had to disable to get it going.

ok, on the page where the instructions are for MISCONFIG("http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538")
it says i should i have qttask and iTunesHelper... but i dont have qttask anymore which i used to have..

anyways i disabled all the files except iTunesHlper.....

after i set the MISCONFIG and restart my computer, in MISCONFIG there is iTunesHelper, some other file whose name always changes, and this file called "ctfmon" and i open my itunes and i can play songs and it'z fine.. but as soon as i try to add songs to the library, right-click on any of the icons on the desktop, or opening a folder, the itunes shuts down and never opens.. so i checked the MISCONFIG again and now there is wickkqi and xjii running...i am guessing that those two files are the files that are causing the trouble

yeah please help me.. i m really desperate..

and it would be nice if you give me the URL for the official apple techinicians forum or whatever.. because i cant find it and i think they can solve this issue

o yeah also... i tried to locate that name-changing file and delete it, because some other thread said that it is created by a random-name-generating malware, and sure enough, when i tried to delete it, another file with a different name replaced the file, and the iTUnes still does not work.

    Hi all -
    First of all, there are a few things you should do before installing iTunes;
Ensure that there is no spyware - I use Webroot's Spy Sweeper and this has worked very well for me, do a a full scan. Ensure that all drivers and antivirus definitions are all up to date.
Once that is done, disable antivirus, spy sweeper and all Instant messenging programs, download and install itunes, re-boot and off you go. You should also disable the three mentoned for updates as well and re-enable after the update.
There are also some firewalls that do not work well with iTunes, namely zone alarm and black ice. Addtionally, if you have a firewall other than the one that's in XP sp2, disable one of them either xp's or the other, do not have two firewalls operating at the same time.
    I've never had a problem.
For win xp user's, msconfig should NOT be used, instead, use services.msc
When importing a CD or burning ensure all instant messenging programs are turned off. I've frequently encountered issues when I'm buring a CD, itunes would freeze or crash when I get an IM. I have to uninstall itunes and re-install for it to work.

Bummer, you DO have that Qoologic variant of malware that's going around.

Apple is not going to remove a Windows malware for you! There is no "URL for the official apple techinicians forum or whatever.. ".

If you are PC-savvy you can try these directions to remove the malware, or get a friend to help you.

Maybe you missed a step in those directions...they are complicated even for an advanced PC user. I just don't have it in me to post you through each step. Do you have a techie friend who can sit with you at your PC and go through it?

Do you have purchased security software like Norton or McAfee? Get after them to help you, if so.

This malware is blocking your iTunes, you need to get it off your PC!

I just thought, if you don't have the qttask in the list, maybe a standalone QuickTime install will fix you up. Becaue iTunes depens upon QuickTime.

I forget if you tried that.

Download the file to your hard drive, turn off security programs, and run the install

  • sam sm lee Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)
    okay installing quicktime didn't work
i did get qttask back... but it doesn't help my problem..

but now itz bugging me that i dont have access to internet explorer any more...
like i said "Cannot find '{030C1661-CDAF-11DO-8A3E-OOCO4FC9E26E}'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct" error msg comes up, and then it asks me if i want to send the error to microsoft...
this error started ocurring when i did the steps from the site that u, katrina, told me about... i think i deleted somethinig i shouldn't have deleted...
    so can u help me?

o yeah and all the antispyware programs i have are microsoft antispyware and this old korean "daganda" sweeper..

    pleazzee help me..

    actually it says

    Can not find '{D30C1661-CDAF-11D0-8A3E-00C04FC9E26E}'.
Make sure path or internet address is correct.

    my bad...

Sam; Did you try using the Restore function in XP ?
If that does not work, what usually works for me is to back up your itunes onto CD's and all other data that's important to you and re format.
You have to re-install all of your drivers etc... ensure that you have all the installation CD's before proceeding !

Windows catches colds and freaks out when it feels like it. This is why I'm throwing windows out the window and moving to a superior operating system ====>>>>> THE MAC ! As soon as I get Christmas out of the way, APPLE here I come, finally.
