Bluetooth iphone 3GS and powerbook G4

I have just noticed both devices have bluetooth. I am, however, struggling to get the pair to sync. I have added the passcode, but the iphone is continually saying "Not connected" next to the macbook.
Does anyone have any idea why and how to get the contacts from the iphone onto the powerbook?
