Itunes 10.1 Double-click to play music nothing happens

I just recently updated to itunes 10.1. i have mac book pro with os 10.5.8. when i double click a track to play it in my music library, double click no longer plays the track. I have to right click the track to play it. Sometimes it seems to go other times not. I have a bluetooth mouse but that isn't the problem because i've tried it with the trackpad too and same thing, will not double click consistently. anyone have any suggestions. i have not tried reinstalling itunes yet.
