How to delete photo albums from iPhone 4

I synced some photo albums from my computer to my iPhone 4, but now I want to delete them. I opened iTunes, and UNCHECKED the sync folder button, and a message popped up asking if I wanted to keep or delete the photos on my phone. I clicked DELETE.

After the phone synced, the photos are still in my Photo Library on my iPhone! And there's no way to manually delete them off the phone either.

HELP!! I want the photos off my phone.

Thanks.

There must be a better way than this, this appears to be a major oversight from Apple.

I have my camera roll, a folder called 'Photo Library' then a duplicate folder called 'iPhone' which has the same contents as Photo Library.

I have selected don't sync and chose the option 'Delete Photos' but they are still there. Its very annoying.

This is correct. Camera Roll is temporary storage for pics taken with iphone. you should be importing them regularly to your computer as with any other digital camera.

Photo Library will ALWAYS be on your iphone it is where you can access all pics synced to your iphone. So if you synced multiple folders to your iphone, you couls access all pics from one place.

You "iphone" is the folder that you synced to your iphone. You can access the very same pics as you can access from photo library. There are not two copied, simply to ways to reach the same pics.

I had the same problem. Here is a solution that worked for me. Create a new empty folder. Restart your itunes. Now, do a pictures synch using 'selected folders' - only now, change your selection from your iphone folder to the new empty folder and do a sync. This deletes the photos and the iphone folder in your iphone.

I am surprised there isnt an easier way to manage my photos.

Ok I found a solution that worked for me:

The easiest way that I know of is:

1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac.

2. Open Image Capture and select your iPhone from Devices

3. When all of the images have been listed in Image Capture, Select All... (Cmd-A).

4. At the bottom of the window with the list is a Delete button next to the "Import To:" label. Click it.

5. Verify that you want to remove all of the images from your iPhone and let the application do its job.

I was actually just having this problem and when I went back into "Sync photos from iPhoto" in iTunes, I selected "Selected Albums, Events...." In the pull-down menu, I chose "No Events." Because the Events are in albums, or vice versa, if you sync no events, it will remove them, and their albums from your iPhone! I was so frustrated but it was just one click away 🙂

Thanks christiebird, your advice (Selecting first Sync photos from iPhoto" and then sync'ing after selecting "no events" in the pull down menus; I did tick one recent event to see what happens) worked for me - I think 🙂.

However, the Cameral Roll is still there with 4195 picture I wanted to delete, but the Photo Library has only 25 picks as I had ticked one last event. My iPhoto library has some 7500 pics.

I am not sure that I understand what is happening here and what should I do with the Cameral Roll.

Any advice?

The simplest way to delete an album that you have transferred from your computer is to create an empty folder and name it the same as the album that you want to delete on your iphone. Connect your phone to your computer and open itunes. Go to photos for 'sync photos from' select your empty folder and then click on sync. This should delete the album. I just tried it and it happened to work.
