Final Cut Express 4 - Get Spinning Ball every time try to play DV clips

Hi all-
I just unpacked my brand new Macbook Pro and FCExpress 4.
I have DV clips that I import into my FC project. No matter what when i try to play them, it freezes and i get the SBBOD! WHY?? I thought DV was fine? I'm so confused! I even converted a few into DV with MPEG Streamclip.
Please help!

Please give your complete system configuration, computer, drives, how everything's connected, how the drives are formatted, where your media is, and how you're playing back the video

Hi Tom-
Thanks for offering to help.
I just bought the Macbook Pro 15" w/ i7 processor and 500GB HD.
The DV files are on my HD (i transferred the over from my older PowerBookG4, and also some from a DVD which i converted to DV using MPEG streamclip. I imported them into FCP under "import files."
I can play back the vid fine in Quicktime. But as soon as i open it in the playback window of FCExpress. it freezes. I've tried with differnt DV clips and .MOV clips and it's the same freeze. They all worked fine in my old iMovie on my old machine. So confused...

Trash the FCE Preferences and try again.

Sounds pretty wierd for standard DV files.
Can you relay the Item Properties of these clips please?
In the Browser of FCE right click on a clip and select Item Properties.

To add to what Al said, if this machine came with FCE preinstalled I would take it to an Apple store for evaluation if you can, or contact Apple support.

Well...i guess that was it! I shut down last night with no clue. I just trashed the prefs like you said...and voila! The MOV and DV files are playing fine now. Phew! It was brand new FC that i installed yesterday from the CD-ROM.
