Cannot transfer apps from iTunes to iPad

I've downloaded a bunch of apps from the iTunes store into iTunes (v10) which is running on my laptop (Win7 x64). When I connect my iPad I can manually transfer music, audio books but I cannot transfer the apps I downloaded. The iTunes account is authorized. What the heck am I doing wrong that I cannot transfer the apps (all of the apps are free apps).

home made, Windows 7, 2.6 Dual core, 4GB memory 8TB Storage

HI,

Instead of trying to sync the apps from your PC, tap the App Store app on your iPad and download directly to the iPad instead.

Manually dragging an app from the PC to the iPad (in iTunes, on the left side) should work - I just tried it.
Have you tried automatic sync yet? Select the Apps tab (in the iTunes main window) and check "Sync Apps" and check the little boxes for all apps you want to sync. And then click Sync (on the right side of the capacity bar).

RE - "Manually dragging an app from the PC to the iPad (in iTunes, on the left side) should work" When I drag the app from the PC and attempt to drop on the iPad I get the circle with the line through it as the mouse goes over the iPad in iTunes.

Somewhere I saw the automatic sync but I'm not sure if I want auto sync turned on because I have four different iPod devices that I use on three different systems under the same iTunes account. The different systems have been used to manage different downloads for the devices, example because my desktop has 8TB of storage and about 3500 different audio books in MP3 format I use it to convert the books from MP3 format to the iPod format and then transfer them to the desired device. The desktop is also used to manage my 300GB of music whereas my wife's laptop and my laptop is used mainly manage her iPad. My iTouch is managed from all three systems. Currently I cannot find the darn auto sync function to give it a try.

When you say "Select the Apps tab (in the iTunes main window)" do you mean for me to click on the "apps" under Library in the left Nav pane? (I don't see Apps anywhere else in the iTunes window) If yes where should I then see "Sync Apps", I don't see "Sync Apps" anywhere in the iTunes window. BTW I'm using iTunes 10.1.0.54 with Win7 x64).

If any of the apps require version 4+ of iOS then they won't copy until the new version is released later this month, and you've installed it.

When the iPad is connected you should be able to select the device, and then go its app tab and be able to select which of your apps that you want to install/sync (with the above version 4 proviso).

OK I just found the Sync Apps (I had to select the device iPad), when I check the box I'm informed that "all of the apps on the iPad will be replaced by apps from the iTunes library. I've got apps on the iPad that are not in iTunes library on this PC and I don't want them removed from the iPad.

Most audiobooks are already MP3. What is "Pod format" and how are you converting them?

Select the iPad in iTunes. Across the top of the iTunes window, you should see Summary, Apps, Music, *TV Shows*, etc.

Currently I cannot find the darn auto sync function to give it a try.

To autosync, you uncheck *Manually manage* on the iPad Summary tab.

I've got apps on the iPad that are not in iTunes library on this PC

File > Transfer purchases will copy purchased items from iPad to iTunes.

OK I finally got it to sync - I had to click on the device and then click the Apps tab and then check the box 'Sync Apps' - so much for user friendly !!!!

All of my audio books are in MP3 format, I use Markable (see http://rightwordsoft.com/products/markable/help2/default.php) to merge and convert the MP3 and they are converted to

I know this was a while ago but i got the same problem. i looked for sync apps button but i cant find it and when i try to drag the app on ipad it just has the circle with a line through it.

It is a checkbox, not a button.

Select the iPad in iTunes.

Click the Apps tab across top.

cuz if the problem was from Appsync, the cracked apps that you downloaded WILL NOT WORK.

and also i'm sure you are using either installous 3 or install0us, check in their settings if you enabled: Sync with iTunes

This transfers from the iPad to iTunes. The apps are already in iTunes.

Why "are you sure" of this?

He was using iOS 3.2 and trying to update to apps requiring iOS 4.

He solved the problem 18 months ago.
