CalDAV with SSL and Client Authentication

I am trying to configure CalDAV over SSL with client authentication on iPhone 4 however getting no joy. It appears the the CalDAV client is never presenting a client certificate when requested by the server. The certifcates are self signed - however that is not the problem since they are loaded and Safari is working fine. The iPhone_Business.pdf implies that certificates are supported - however it is unclear if this extends to CalDAV.
Can anyone confirm that they have this scenario operating or equally can anyone say it won't work ? I am debugging with OpenSSL s_server so pretty confident it's not the server side.
Any ideas how to get things working most welcome.
