Iphone 4 Turned off and wont turn on

I had a problem with the phone dying every now and then. Apple exchanged it for me even if my warranty had expired. Good will stuff, very nice of them. You should try it. It can't hurt.

THANKS! thought i'd broken it, worked without having to connect it to the computer, i just got my 4s yesterday, so looks like the problem hasn't been fixed... 😐

Thanks all, had my 4S for a few weeks and it has just done as you all described, was scratching my head for an hour or so until i found yhis forum!

My iPhone 4 has been doing this over the last few weeks where the screen fades and it turns itself off then nothing works in turning it back on: Plugging in the charger, pressing the power and home button to reset it, plugging it into iTunes, pressing the power and home button together and holding it down and then plugging the USB cable connected to the computer doesn't work either??

Has anyone else got any other advice? Is this a hardware or software issue?

oh my goodness! IT WORKED! thank you this really helped me, i didn't have to connect it to the computer I just had to press home+sleep button together for ten seconds X)

Today 13/11/2011 i had the 5.0.1 new version for my Iphone 4. Suddenly and without any sign the phone switched off itself after6 hours. I didn’t know what to do.Once I read the instructions that the previous users posted, my problem was resolved at 02:38 am. But still I believe that the problem may return in the future. I propose that the apple technicians must see the issue thoroughly.😕

Same problem happened too me. Tried and didnt work with the sleep and home buttom. Luckly it finally did and I had to "Reinstall" my iphone. Thanks to this thread, really!

iexperienced this problem awhile ago. i put my phone in my pocket suddenly i felt vibration for like 1minute. i held the sleep/wake button since i thought it would solve the problem only to fine out that the phone no longer turn on after doing so. i did everything that i could and i was feeling so desperate that i was thinking that as soon as i get this back up, i'd sell it and will just buy Blackberry. haha! good thing i saw this thread! thanks to you guys! 😀

November 17 back again. My iphone 4,32GB, turned off again for a second time (itself, without touching).I went to the store that I had bought it on the 17^thoctober 2011 and I asked for a full investigation or replacement. Imagine the scene while being with your boss and business partners and apple technology to turn off!

I had to return to my previous reliable mobile (sony ericsson K800i) until the problem to be fixed.I'm waiting for a responce from apple or from the domestic supplier.

O my gosh. I have exactly same situation in my phone... it drives me crazy... it already happened like 5-6 times.. I used it and i put it in my pocket for 2mins. It doesn;t work so I pressed hhome+menu button... It worked after that... i didnt like it so i restored it.. but it happend to me again even though i set 4s as new phone!!!!!!!1ugh Apple!@!! do something.. this time Reset(home+menu) doesn's work... i put 4s on charger and comouter and tried to reset!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!! i really loved you but... i dont now please turn on and dont die..

i think this is because of it;s hardware... its noise, bugs, everything is all because of misplaced hardwares and batteries i guess or maybe they just recycled some chipsets from 3gs.. GOSH!

Thanks alot guys, for the posts. It help so much to a lot of people. But why dose this heppen? Is there something to fix it, not to heppen again? Or did we make anything wrong like over lode? It's annoying, this is my second time??

The iPhone is a computer, and it crashes sometimes. Just like a Windows Blue Screen of Death or a Mac kernel panic.

Hey! It may be USB problem as well.

I've done all the above as stated by the original advice (did not work for 12 hours)

and decided to call Apple Tech Support for help instead.

I switched to another USB immediately and it is working 🙂

So for those whom are using other USB ports from else where to connect to your computers or wall plug, please just use the Apple one designated to you.

It's awakened from its coma now and apple support is really friendly (: don't be afraid to call for help any time!
