I wrote a response previously and stated that my dock connector was fried. Come to find out the whole phone was completely dead. Apparently there was some moisture or condensation built up or in the doc connector and caused a short in the board. The repair shop was wrong and could not fix it after having it a little over a week. I had to replace it at Apple yesterday for $163. They will do this for you even if your "out of warranty".

My phone just turned off and won't turn back on. I've read the posts saying to hold down the home and power button but my power button is broke. Any suggestions? I tried holding down the home button and i also tried plugging up to a wall charger and a computer. It wasnt anywhere near dead when it turned off.

Just had the same thing happen to my new 4s. Have only had this phone for a month. It was half charged then all the sudden dies and says its charging. Even shows the battery icon like its charging but will not come on. I tried everything, including trying to reset it multiple times. After leaving it plugged in for a couple hours it just decided to turn itself back on. Problem is it will not charge past 1%. I'm so confused by this. Any suggestions????

Okay, so I was having some music played on my iPhone 4 iOS 6.0.1 at 12:43. I was about to change the song, but when I tried tapping the next button, it stopped playing, and won't work, or in other words, froze. It has 75% of battery left, it has been with me for two months, I tried everything here. It's not in DFU Mode, it won't work with the home + sleep button trick, nor did the "little button above the volume button" (or the Profile button), I tried giving it a slight bump, tried the creepy crawling on the cable trick, nothing at all. I've been browsing this thread for two hours, checking and re-checking every response but nothing worked.

Note: I tried to jailbreak it into 6.0 (tethered) but failed. I restored it and had its OS changed to 6.0.1. just the other day. Is this problem because of the failed jailbreak attempt?

My iPhone 4 was overheating, didn't know want the problem was, apple wanted me to replace it, it was out of warranty so I figured I would rather get a new model rather then the same old one. So I decided to manage the phone.

Last night it overheated, which cause the battery to drain really quickly, and it went off, after refusing to charge, with either the wall charger or my laptop. It begins to overheat when I try charging, and it wouldn't come on but it says charging.

I read on a previous forum that it could be my SIM card tray touching something, I thought nothing of it till that was my last resort, so I removed the SIM card tray and tried charging again, IT WORKED, no overheating nothing. It charges at its normal rate now.

I'm just worried if I put the SIM card back in it won't work.

    Yes. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

Your phone is probably permanently dead. You can try restoring from DFU mode, but if that fails you are out of luck. Before doing it be sure you are using a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub, and disconnect all other USB devices except keyboard and mouse. Also disable your firewall and antivirus and launch iTunes.

If you hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for a long time (~30 seconds) does anything happen, like an Apple logo? If so DFU mode might work. DFU mode:

    1. Connect the cable to the computer, but not the phone.

    2. Hold HOME and SLEEP for EXACTLY 10 seconds, until a black screen appears, then release the SLEEP button and continue holding the HOME button. If an Apple logo appears you have held too long; start over.

    3. While holding HOME connect the cable and continue holding until iTunes recognizes a phone in recovery mode, then release the button and don't touch anything again until the phone recovers or you get an error message. Ignore any messages or displays on the phone. Be patient. This can take 30 minutes or more, depending on your Internet connection speed.

If you get an error message the process failed, and you have run out of options.

My iphone4 won't turn ON. I plugged it to charge for like two hours but the apple logo doesn't still appear, and the home and sleep button trick doesn't work as well. Any help?

Alright, I have an iPhone 4 from past 2.5 years and I am student so I cannot replace it. With that said, my phone after updating it to 6.0.1 keeps getting stuck in recovery mode. So, to solve this I would restore my phone and it would come out of recovery mode. This time round, its not getting recognized by iTunes (I deleted the older version and downloaded the newer version and still nothing), I also held down sleep and power buttons simultaneously and still nothing. Please help, I have tried every possible way but to no avail.

Also, I am sure its not a hardware issue as my phone turns itself on and off and I am certain it has to do something with the update. Please help,

Restore the phone with iTunes and set up as a new phone. Test. If the problem goes away you have corrupt data in your backup, so do not reload it. Instead reinstall your content and apps. If the problem is still there on a "clean" phone it is a hardware problem.

I have no idea what "nearly all" means, so without knowing what you tried specifically no one can tell you what else to do.
