Q: Iphone 4 Turned off and wont turn on

i have the same problem and had been fixed like  u but i want to know the reason of this problem ?

The operating system crashed. Like Windows Blue Screen of Death or Mac (or Linux) kernel panic.Holding both buttons reboots it.

i just replace my phone today ..... but i lost everything including the photo of minister with me ....hope this kinda thing won't happen again....

Thanks to everyone for putting up their help on this. I've had my phone for about two years and only had this problem today for the first time. Following the help here the phone is now working again, thank you to everyone again.  Cheers  

Is it alittle problem or I should reblace my iPhone by new one from apple

Depends... I have had 2 iphone 3's, iPad, and now two iPhone 4's. One of the iPhone 4 is shutting down and displaying the batty when I attempt to turn it on. Yesterday it shut off and I could not get it back after everything mentioned in this thread so took to apple they stuck it in their plug it came on. He showed me how to shut down the programs that were all running at the same time then one hour later same thing only now I get the battery even though I know it's ok. I am either getting it replaced or att will get a package in the mail

My iphone turns off when couple times a day. I tried to hold home and sleep/wake button for couple seconds (even minutes) and nothing its only turns back on when I connect it to charger or USB. I did recover my phone today and upgrade to 5.0.1. However it seems like it did not help cause its allready happened to me again. What do you think? Please help. Thanks.

had the same problem with my iphone 4s just turned off and wouldnt turn back on but problem solved plugged into the computer and didnt have itunes open and juts held the home and sleep/awake buttons for a few seconds and bingo all is safe so thanks to all for the info

Just happened to me.

I held down the home and sleep buttons at the sametime for 15 seconds and it turned on.  Hold it it as long as you can until it turns back on. If it doesn't work after a minute, don't stress just check the apple store.

I have the same problem. I have an iPhone 4, and I've tried everything. I tried the Recovery Mode method, nothing happens. I still have a black screen and my computer won't recognize it. I need help.

Same problem here. I woke up at 7:30 am, phone worked fine.  Went back to bed at 8, and woke up at 9, and phone no longer works. I was listening to itunes at the time when I fell back asleep, but it was on the side of the bed... it didnt fall, didnt get wet.. nothing *should* be wrong with it, I just woke up and it didnt work anymore. 

I took it to the genius bar, which told me I would need to purchase a new one because my iphone4 was 20 days out of warranty.  I could not be more upset about this entire situation.  Paying a hefty sum for these phones plus the data package, I would excpet a little more reliability....

Upgraded begrudgingly to the iphone4s, but I'd really like to be able to do something with this 4 besides use it as a paperweight.
