Phone call from Safari Browser

I just switched from Windows to Mac. On my Windows system I could make a phone call directly from the web browser by clicking on a phone number on a web page or in an email (just like you can do on the iPhone), and it would place a phone call using Skype. Is there a way to do the same thing on the Mac? I can only find references on the Skype website for doing it on Windows, but I don't care if it's Skype or some other application as long as I can call land lines from my Mac.
