iTunes is not recognizing my disc drive for burning CD's.....

........but it recognizes it when uploading a new cd? huh?

Ok, so i've read all the post on here regarding not being able to burn cd's from itunes and have troubleshooted the way that everyone has said. I keep encountering the same issue.

I go to burn a playlist or whatever and when the burn box comes up, beside the device type it says "no disc recgonizable disc drives".
I went through the troubleshooting page on itunes and apple.com and nothing seems to be working. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to get another disc drive? <-------and if so, how does that work?

I'm just at my wits end about this because it recognizes the drive when I want to upload a cd but when I want to burn a playlist, it doesn't recognize the drive, so i am very confused.....and furstruated.

Okay ... assuming for the moment that it's an iTunes problem rather than a conflict. In the course of your troubleshooting to date have you tried a manual reinstall of the GEAR drivers iTunes uses for burning? For 64-bit instructions for the uninstall see the following article from the GEAR wiki:

[64-bit manual removal|http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS: Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2C_etc#Manual_Removal_.E2.80.9 364-bit]

... and then reinstall using the drivers from here:

Hey everyone who's had the 'no disk in drive' error in Windows - I've been plagued by this for months, and have figured out what's going on! My McAfee virus scanning software was set to 'realtime scannin' which caused the problem. I stopped the realtime scanning and the 'no disk' error disappeared!!! I can't believe it actually worked. If you're getting this annoying error in Windows whenever you sync your iPod, try disabling any running virus scanning software to see if it stops the error.

Good luck!

I'm experiencing the problem of iTunes not recognizing my CD/DVD drive. (Also the splash screen warning that iTunes was not properly installed and I won't be able to import or burn discs.)

I have gone through just about every "solution" you can imagine in the last couple of days (installing NET stuff, installing GEAR drivers, re-installing iTunes and Quicktime - together and separately - etc.)

I've done the diagnostic test for drives and am pasting it below. Although my drives are "recognized" at the beginning of the diagnostic, when I insert an Audio CD, it gives me the message that no audio cd was found.

Any ideas? It's driving me nuts....
